Woman jailed after daughter found abandoned in forest
7/7/2003 10:22 AM
JASPER -- An woman is in an East Texas jail after authorities said her 6-year-old daughter was found abandoned in the Piney Woods.
Angelina County sheriff's deputies said a passerby found the girl alone off State Highway 63 in the Angelina National Forest near Lake Sam Rayburn.
The girl told deputies that her mother told her they were going to play hide-and-seek, but when the girl got out of her car, her mother drove away.
Angelina County deputies said they found the mother drinking beer at a Sam Rayburn Lake bar. She's in the Angelina County Jail in Lufkin, while her daughter has been turned over to child-welfare authorities.

Good argument for female castration. This thing shouldn't be allowed to me a mother.

I dunno. I think stuff like this has always happened, but it gets a lot more press these days. I often wondered where the hell were Hansel & Gretel's parents when they were out wandering in the woods.

Good argument for female castration. Not sure what that is. Hopefully it involves taking out her womb.
This thing shouldn't be allowed to me a mother.
Absolutely agree.

I'll take the little girl...I've always wanted a daughter...I guess the little girl interferred with the mother's bar time.

What a terribly traumatic thing to do to a six-year-old. "My mommy doesn't want me. My mommy wanted me dead." This is one of those things that can cause somebody to be hosed up for the rest of her life. Let's make sure we hose up the rest of "mommy's" life, too. Or shorten it by a whole bunch. This happened in Texas, right? Good. Texas does a good job with this kind of stuff. |

The dad is the one that left them in the forest, but then he regretted it. His wife (the kids step mother made him lose the children).

Hansel and Gretel. That's the first thing I thought of when I read this. With the internet, we all read news items that we would otherwise not see.

I'd gladly take this child for my own too. My almost-6-year-old daughter often asks me for a sister...

"I often wondered where the hell were Hansel & Gretel's parents when they were out wandering in the woods."Umm, weren't they the ones left them there?
The answer is: In a bar on Lake Sam Rayburn!

I thought the same thing at first. But I can also tell you that the local news was also reporting on two men who drowned after saving some girls who had gotten in some rapids in the Sabine River. One was from Newton, TX and the other, a 15 year old young man, was from Jasper. So there are some good people in Jasper.
