LOS ANGELES (AP) - If California's Republicans get their way, Democratic Gov. Gray Davis will join a club so exclusive it has only one member - Lynn J. Frazier, governor of North Dakota during World War I.
Frazier served from 1917 to 1921, when he became the first - and for now, the only - governor recalled from office.

Check out my profile for some links about the California Recall and how it came about. We in California owe Hiram Johnson a tremendous amount of gratitude for having the fortitude to get this enacted here. I don't think we could expect to see it happen today as things sit.

"Hiram Johnson was a reformer who wanted to make sure government was accountable to the people," GOP strategist Kevin Spillane said.
A government accountable to the people... :-\
What a novel idea... Ping

If California's Republicans get their wayOf course every Republican in California, working together, could not oust its governor because Democrats so greatly outnumber them.
Socialism is a failure throughout the world. It is a failure in California and the chickens have come home to roost. Good-bye Gray Davis. Democrats don't like the end of Utopia either. ("Whadda you mean there is no free government money?")

OK! You've got me, Reagan on horseback. Out comes the wallet.

Evan Mecham, former Arizona governor, was impeached by the Arizona state house and later convicted by the state senate on 4 April 1987. So much for the author's historical accuracy.

If the Davis recall succeeds, California could once again set an example - for better or worse - for the rest of the country,..California has been patient of more than Davis' incompetence. The state endured Willie Brown until it had no choice but to implement term limits. A "will of the people" that, by the way, was resisted by the Democrats all the way to SCOTUS, and upheld.
Term limits have been a mixed blessing and should be subject to another discussion, but in this context they were a forced choice upon the CA electorate by the California Democratic Party that was held by the throat by Willie Brown and CA's trial lawyers.
The Davis recall is not unlike using term limits to rid of the state of Willie Brown and "One Man Rule". The political Democrats have gotten so rotten in Sacramento that even their own party has noticed the smell. Even if Dianne, "I got my CCW, now shove off", Feinstein slips into the Gov's office, it will be another CA "Bellwether" moment.
It's time to rebel at the ballot box and through the bum Davis, out on his ear.

Seventeen other states also have provisions for recalling state officials, but California is one of those in which recalls can be pulled off most easily, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Apparently, Illinois is one of those, BUT, read further....
To get a recall on the ballot, most states require signatures from at least 25 percent of the number of voters in the previous election. California requires just 12 percent. (The Davis recall campaign, which hopes to put the measure on the ballot this fall, needs 897,158 signatures by Sept. 2; the state has recorded about half that number so far.)
Apparently Illinois is one of those too....
In addition, California allows more time than most states to collect the signatures.
Yes, you guessed it, Illinois allows very little time....
...And while six states require recall supporters to specify reasons such as malfeasance or incompetence for ousting an official, California sets no such criteria. The California Constitution says that "sufficiency of reason is not reviewable."
Should I say it again???? Illinois has one of the toughest recall laws on the books (in fact, I don't even think it's a recall law as such)....Damn...I'd love to get rid of Blago!

It's kinda like the Rose Bird deal......remember how long it took for the people to vote her out????Yes, but nevertheless, we finally got her, as well as other Jerry Brown appointee's to the SCOCA. Davis was Browns Chief of Staff, I believe and is more of Jerry Brown's legacy that CA needs to get rid of.

malfeasance or incompetenceAnother 6 months & we can probably prove incompetence
How much time does Illinois allow to collect the signatures?

I'll put a ping out to some weasels, er, lawyer/politicians that I know
To: cherry_bomb88
I'm not against a recall but it's the qualified but non-voting citizens who stay home who are responsible for crooks being elected. People need to throw the bums out at election time. That they don't do it very often is an indictment of the people, not of the politicians.
America has exactly the low quality of elected officials it tolerates and, therefore, deserves through massive neglect and apathy.
Gray Davis is there because enough of his crowd voted for him and not enough of anyone else's crowd voted for an opponent.
To: Ford Fairlane
ROTFL....my sentiments exactly!
