I once wrote that this issue is easy to resolve. Have a foundation go over to the former Soviet Union and review the info in the KGB archives. I think there is enough info and records to indicate tha McCarthy in his clumsy way is correct about a number of people in the US government and Hollywood. Many in the liberal academia refuses to back such a project. I wonder why?????

No, it is not a scholarly treatise...it is a polemic. But the "facts" as such are reported accurately, albeit with acid.

I'm half way through Ann's book, so far it is quite impressive. In providing a counter view to the liberal view of the history of the last century, Ann dredges up history that the liberals would just as soon forget, and she dredges up quotes from individual liberals that, no doubt, they would just as soon forget about.

No matter what the liberals say about Sen. McCarthy, or Ann, they will never address the question both of them ask about the liberals, and the Democratic Party since FDR days, "Why didn't you do anything about known Communists working for the government of the United States, many of who were Communist spies?"

A great book that should have been written long ago, but Ann provides damning liberal quotes as recent as January 2003. Once you read "Treason" you will never trust the Democrat Party on foriegn policy again, if you ever did in the first place!

I just finished Ms. Coulter's book, and plan on buying her previous work, which is strangeley sold out around here.

It was an incisive, laugh-out-loud, and sometimes-dismaying, look at an old conclusion of mine, nameley that Leftists of ANY sort should NEVER, EVER be entrusted with a nation's power. They simply cannot handle it, and cannot deal with the world as it is.

Ms. Coulter asks the question all through her book; "YES, but were there Communist security risks and outright spies in the U.S. government or not?"

None of her detractors that I am aware of answer this, or even confront it, for obvious reasons. They also fail to state exactly why it is so "terrifying" for someone to lose work for a position that they CHOSE to take, whilst such amusements as gulags, purges, state-sponsored famines, show trials, and 100 million deaths were being merrily carried out.

Do these McCarthy-haters ever even ACKNOWLEDGE that having members of the Communist Party in high, security-clearance positions is dangerous? All I hear on that question is lame attempts to change the subject.

Sorry, but the VENONA cables conclusively prove that McCarthy and his counterparts on HUAC were largeley correct. As for the Hollywood crowd, actions have consequences. They chose to join groups which were outspokenly anti-American, and their employers decided that they did not wish to employ people with judgement so poor. Boo frickin' Hoo. Nobody arrested them or tossed them into the calaboose for it, as would have happened instanter in the nation they all pined for.

Dorothy Rabinowitz is no conservative. She's an elderly, oldtime Democrat, but she looked into the injustices committed during the child molesting scandals of the 80s and exposed the frauds for the world to see.

Thru her incredible opinion pieces in the WSJ she alone is responsible for turning public opinion and freeing the families and individuals who were wrongly accused all over the country. For that she's my idol, but she's no conservative.

Well, well. I'm sorry to read this. I'm a great admirer of Dorothy Rabinowitz, and I'm also a great admirer of Ann Coulter. I hope to continue admiring both of them.

I watched the Army McCarthy hearings on television. No question that he was an odd duck, and rather sinister looking. But that's beside the point. Nobody else was saying what needed to be said, so McCarthy was the one.

Besides which, the real point is not so much McCarthy himself, as the fact that liberals have continued for fifty years to demonize anyone who tries to uncover the Communists who still continue in our midst even today. Criticize anyone on the left, and they still scream "McCarthyism!"

I'm very sorry these two admirable conservative writers have fallen out with each other. It's unnecessary and unfortunate. And I agree; this is a misleading and unfortunate review by someone who is normally a great and admirable editorialist.
