NEW YORK - MSNBC on Monday fired Michael Savage for anti-gay comments.
The popular radio talk show host who did a weekend TV show for the cable channel referred to an unidentified caller to his show Saturday as a "sodomite" and said he should "get AIDS and die."

Oh, you mean Bill Mahr's oh-so-funny jokes like "For a few brief moments, America held the hope that OJ Simpson had murdered Katherine Harris." ?
Or the comment about suicidal terrorists not being cowardly vs US military actions? Do you actually think that saying the 9-11 hijackers purposefully killing innocents during peacetime wasn't cowardly, is not offensive?
By the way, Bill Mahr can be very funny, but he can also spout the most ignorant things.

MSNBC should hire Linda Mangano so she could make more aggravated remarks and then refuse to fire her. THEN you would have a point.

A leftist had a graphic of candidate George W. Bush on screen with the caption "Snipers Wanted". He still has his program on SeeBS.
Neither person's offense was "series" though. There was no genuine wish behind the actions.
Catch up on the thread. Michael Savage also told him to go choke on a sausage. Would you still have been outraged if he had just said, "Drop dead" or would you have taken it to be a rude response to a rude comment?
Is AIDS a poltically protected disease or are there other horrible illnesses that would have provoked this response?
I won't defend his comment by bringing up heartless statements made by people on the left (in relation to Ronald Reagan, Charlton Heaston, and others) over time. I'll just point out that a double standard does exist.
I will offer this parallel. There was a Benneton ad that was mocked up to show Ronald Reagan with AIDS scars. Magazines still take their ads and we would be considered "petty" today to push for a boycott of their products/sponsorship this late in the game.

They all come out don't they? Homos. That's what they are.Who? As I said to that poster, there have been no Savage critics pop up out of the blue. The comments have come from respected longtime freepers.
They do not deserve the above comment, but then you are a Savage fan you say, so I guess that's the caliber of post one can expect.

Ho hum. Go spout your nonsense elsewhere. I don't hate anyone, including Dr. Savage, whose rallies I have attended and supported in the past.

MSNBC had every right to fire him, I never said they didn't. I, personally, think it was a stupid move on their part, but they had the right to do it.
I am arguing that Savage has a right to say it. And there are so-called-conservatives on here who seem to think he should be sent to a gulag for saying it.
I wonder what would have happened to Sam Adams and Patrick Henry and a few of the other fire-brands of the Revolution if some of you people were around then.
GIVE UP THE BARNEY TAPES!
God have mercy...what a pack of timid, hand-wringers...

Another proud member of the Savage Nation here too. Curious as to how he will address this in tonight's radio show.

Not a good comparison. What he wished on the caller was a very real potential repercussion of the gay "lifestyle". I would equate what he said with "drop dead", which people say quite often in the heat of the moment without wanting the actual death of someone.

Another proud member of the Savage Nation here too. Curious as to how he will address this in tonight's radio show.I knew of him, but never paid much attention. I will now. I think I'm going to like his show. I like it when conservatives speak their mind. It's about time.
To: Bullish
Exactly. We're in the position we're in, in this nation, for precisely the kind of rubbish you're seeing posted on this thread by the whiney, hand-wringers who call themselves "conservatives" and yet are spouting every PC buzz-word in the book.
They've been gelded by the leftist filth. They don't even know what's been done to them. They don't even see it.
They think any sign of anger from a male is "madness" or that loud voices are "bad"...it's like listening to a hippy-dippy, lefty, pre-school lecture.
To: Calpernia
Now, just out of curiousity... What happened to free speech? We had a court rule that this person's freedom of speech was protected. Yet she used the threatening words of "I hope you get cancer and die" So it is ok to die from cancer; but not aids? Michael Savage has a constitutional right to say what he wants; no one is claiming that the Government should prosecute him for saying it. Savage does not, on the other hand, have a constitutional right to keep his job on MSNBC; they can fire him for any reason permitted under his contract.
When can we expect to see Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Michael Moore, Mike Farell, the Dixie Chicks and others speak out in defense of Mike's "unpopular" speech?

Yea, a 5:00p.m. ET Saturday show. He would have pulled them in at 11:00p.m. and put MSNBC on top for that hour.
