It's nice to see that you would be so generous not only with your tax dollars, but mine and everyone elses as well. The answer to getting rid of government subsidies to corporations is not to hand out cash and prizes willy-nilly to anyone with their hand out.

I ask this b/c I couldn't help notice the somewhat matching sofa and love seat (or it that a matching recliner?), the modest little end table and lamp,hardwood floors, what looks like wall paper on the wall directly to the side of mother and daughter and a general air of things being neat and tidy.

Baby Tia is plump, bright eyed,clear skinned and rose cheeked. And mama, I notice, is wearing several pieces of jewelry. Not expensive jewelry, granted, but jewelry never the less. Which, in turn, means mama has a certain amount of disposable income.

Since you mentioned it, I'm not sure about your neck of the woods, but where I live, a lot of the women I see using food stamps are overweight. A large number of them morbidly obese. And its not beans and rice in the shopping cart, but a lot of twinkies, coke, pepsi and other items that these poor things would starve without.

You make an interesting point.

Someone close to me works in the post office and has told me on several occasions that the welfare checks tend to arrive here on the same day as the bills for the cable company. And guess what? Most of the homes getting welfare checks also get cable TV.

It's the vivid image of those who check out at the local HEB with a Lone Star card, then load their groceries into their BRAND NEW Chevy Cavalier convertible, parked in a handicapped spot, though both are able bodied.

Or perhaps it's the lady who drops her four kids off for free breakfast at the local school driving a very late model Cadillac.

Or maybe it's all the late model cars parked outside the section 8 apartment building across the park.

Maybe it's the woman with NINE children by three different fathers, two of which are in prison, the rest of which suffer from serious problems, including coming to school filthy and smelling.

Maybe it's that the federal, state and local governments encourage ILLEGALS to get "free" housing, "free" job training, "free" food, "free" medical care, "free" schooling, "free" hospitalization, "free" pre-natal care, "free" counseling, "free"....

Maybe some of these are part of my generally poor attitude towards welfare recipients.

Hello, I know this is late in the post, but can any of you give me ideas why alot of people on welfare have nice cars and cell phones, especially. I know the cost of cellular phones has gone down, but how can they afford it? Cheating, living with boyfriend who works at GM, etc. Are there some welfare funds that give them the nice things directly? Apply for the taxpayer provided fund that lets Uncle Sam buy you a free new car and ,of course, free cell phone servive too! Yeah, I know it's probably not like that, but what gives? Anybody got a special answer?
