Christian financial expert Burkett dies

Larry Burkett of Gainesville, founder of the world's first organization to teach Bible-based financial management, died Friday.

Burkett, 64, had battled cancer and other health problems for several years, Crown Financial Ministries said in a news release.

A former electrical engineer, Burkett found God in the 1970s, the company said.

As a young finance major in college, I picked up alot from Burkett that was not in the regular textbooks.

I enjoyed listening to his radio program. His counsel was wise and personal. He was non-judgmental but had clear, but sometimes difficult solutions to people's money management. I'm sorry he is gone.

I HATE that terrible disease. I wish just half of the money going into AIDS research was going into the Cancer programs.

We really learned much from him. Mrs SLB and I are graduates of Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University a course that uses much of the information that Larry Burkett published.
