American Indian group complains scientific review biased
GRANTS PASS - An American Indian rights group is complaining that the National Academy of Sciences committee that reviewed the 2001 Klamath Basin irrigation shut-off was biased in favor of the economic interests of farmers.
John Echohawk is executive director of the Native American Rights Fund in Boulder, Colorado. He is asking the academy to dissolve the committee that found no scientific justification for shutting off irrigation in favor of fish. Echohawk wants the academy to convene a new committee.
Echohawk says the Klamath Tribes once harvested tens of thousands of pounds of suckers. But he says the Indians have not been able to take more than two a year for ceremonial purposes the past 15 years.
Interior Secretary Gale Norton contracted the academy to review the decisions of federal scientists setting minimum water levels for endangered suckers.
When drought struck the basin in 2001, the U-S Bureau of Reclamation shut off irrigation to most of the 200-thousand acres of the Klamath Reclamation Project to meet the water levels for fish set under the Endangered Species Act.
Echohawk says the bureau used the interim report as the foundation of its ten-year plan for water allocations in the basin, and that after full irrigation deliveries were given farmers in 2002, thousands of salmon died in the lower Klamath River.
Scientists for the California Department of Fish and Game blame the fish kill on low water in the river.

yeah, the Klamath tribe like them suckers, but most Oregon people say: "never give a sucker an even break", in fact when we catch them we thump em on the head and throw them up n the bank, no one waqnts to eat them, as well as no native Oregonian would even consider eating a catfish, which are given the same ritual "burial" as suckers.

I was told that they have found a "hot spot" of ceratomyxa shasta (a fish-killing spore) around Indian Creek - Happy Camp. That is where they had a fish kill this year (even with all the above average tributary flows.) It had nothing to do with the Upper Basin.
By the way, the autopsy reports on last years fish from the USFWS have not yet been released, so the jury is still out on that.

Echohawk is a crook and conman.Makes big bucks suing gov
getting paid by taxpayers. All this greenie political and
legal activity to shut dowm farms, is a desperation move
on their part, lately. They know that the suckers are fine. They know that with balanced flows from Trinity,
that is being implemented, the river is fine. But they want to shut off farms,so as to lead the public into thinking
that a shutoff is the reason that things turned out right.
If river is fine with farmers in good shape also, that kills the greens plan to drive then out.So they want them shut down now, to make it seem that is was neccessary,
to help river and fish.Ed.

Having attended the meeting where the science they used was presented, I can tell you that this is the biggest load of manuer I've heard in a long time. The science didn't stand up to the test. I was there. Was he?

The Native American Rights Fund is a particularly evil group. NARF is to rank and file Tribal members as the Steelworker Union operatives are to real steelworkers: in both cases a bunch of commie parasites who are keeping the members down on the plantation. Of course, the Tribes do have their corrupt elite that lives off the casino winnings.

Perhaps this is the time and place to make public recent research indicating that such lynx hairs only grow when the host bureau-biologist mis-speaks him/herself and issues an inoperative statement.

"I think you win the prize on that one."Thank you, but I'm not lookin for no danged prizes! I want this nation and particularly my state to take sanity back from these whacked out screw-balls!!!
I want it to start immediately and progress rapidly. I'm so desperately tired of all this phoney crappola and the ease with which so many are caught-up in all this depraved sophistry!
With each new absurd article you seek out and post, my hopes for America remaining more than just another country sink just a little more. I've never seen such a determined, concerted, orchestrated effort to bring it all down. It's stunning!!!

You're right! I just saw Libertarian Liz ping you and you were right on it, while I was pingin you.
I didn't mean to imply that you were annoying me with pings and posts. It's just that no matter how absurd the article is that should normally jar people awake... The opposite happens, like everybody was gittin desensitized, or something. Maybe they are and I'm one of the few left who cares.
