Alan Simpson Says We Have "Rocks for Brains" A former U.S. Senator from Wyoming, Alan Simpson, in a column that appeared in the Washington Post (6/16/03), described pro-life Republicans as "steely-eyed zealots trying to inflict their personal views on others." Such people, Mr. Simpson says, must "have rocks for brains" if they believe the conflict over abortion is ever going to be resolved, reports Ken Connor in Family Research Council's 6/16 edition of Washington Update. Alan Simpson is a pro-abortion member of the board of the Republican Pro-Choice Coalition, a group that has been trying for over ten years without success, to have the pro-life plank stricken from the Republican National Platform. He is a key figure in the new effort by a group called the Republican Unity Coalition, the principal organizers of which are Charles Francis, the homosexual brother of Jim Francis, a close personal friend of President Bush, and Mary Cheney, a self-described lesbian and the daughter of Vice-President Dick Cheney. The Republican Unity Coalition, with Mr. Simpson's help, seeks to make the Republican National Platform neutral on issues homosexual activists care about. Currently, the Republican Platform endorses "the traditional definition of "marriage" as the legal union of one man and one woman" and states, "we believe that federal judges and bureaucrats should not force states to recognize other living arrangements as marriages. The Platform further states Republican Party support for the Defense of Marriage Act and also, "we do not believe sexual preference should be given special legal protection or standing in law." In a little more than a year, RNC/Life and our friends in the pro-life/pro-family coalition will go to the Republican National Convention in New York to once again battle against the forces represented by Alan Simpson, the Republican Pro-Choice Coalition and the Republican Unity Coalition. They are powerful, heavily funded, and have friends in very high places. Our response will continue to be the expectation that the majority of Republicans want our Platform to continue to call for respect for innocent human life and support for traditional marriage and the family as the cornerstone of a stable society. |

"Candidates should be screened for Dolexia then held to the grass roots platform - truth in advertising. Will it be the 'rockhead' wing or the 'scissorshead' wing? I don't think anyone is pro abortion. They just don't want to see this issue in the chaos of the worst legal system in the free world. The abortion issue should remain an issue of conscience rather than a criminal issue.
