I saw an excellent special on Discovery called "Gut Busters" (my son and I couldn't believe our eyes) on eating as a competitive sport. It seems this is big business in Japan, with large cash prizes.

I don't watch as much Japanese TV as I used to now that I have cable in my base housing, but I used to see eating contest shows all the time. They're fascinating in a kind of disgusting way.
