Soul Singer Barry White Dies At 58
POSTED: 4:46 p.m. EDT July 4, 2003
UPDATED: 4:53 p.m. EDT July 4, 2003
Velvet-voiced R&B crooner Barry White, renowned for his lush baritone and carnal lyrics that oozed sex appeal on songs such as "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe," died Friday morning, his manager said.
White, who had suffered kidney failure from years of high blood pressure, died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center around 9:30 a.m., said manager Ned Shankman. White was 58.
White had been undergoing dialysis treatment and had been hospitalized since last September.
White is survived by eight children, grandchildren, and his companion, Catherine Denton.
White's work epitomized seductive disco music. The heavyset musician enjoyed three decades of fame for songs like "You're the First, the Last, My Everything" and "It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next To Me."
The seductive sound of his deep bass voice has not only been featured in his music, but also in radio and television advertisements.
White, longtime producer/friend Jack Perry, adviser Abby Schroeder, and Shankman were preparing a "duets" album for release on Def Soul later this year.

OH, Nooooo!
I remember the early 70s and dancing on jam-packed dance floors and hugging the honies tight while Barry set the mood. God Rest His Soul.
PS - Don;t tell my wife I used to know how to dance. ;-)

When I think of BW, I think of junior high school in the mid 70s, and all those "Florida" songs, (that we heard while driving to our vacations in Panama City and Jacksonville. Love Unlimited.....

What a shame. He made masterful sound, and there's a lot of men who have Barry White to thank for it.
All the good ones are passing on.
To: Dog
....OOhhhhhhhhhh how sad, I loved listening to his voice.
....you'll really be singing with the angels Barry, a little less sexy now though, I think!

Isaac Hayes is Chef.
Barry White was on the Simpsons.
To: kstewskis
Chef is voiced by Isaac Hayes, not Barry White.
This plain out sucks, Barry White was awesome. Such a pleasant, soothing voice. Heaven is going to sound a lot better now with Barry White up there singing. G-d Bless You, Barry.
