Conventional wisdom says that popular Lt. Gov. Blanco will wind up facing fellow Democrat, Atty. Gen. Richard Ieyoub of Lake Charles, in the Nov. 15 general election. Notice that she is playing the "female card" in the primary campaign. Republicans, with four candidates, appear too divided to make the general election cut under the unique LA "jungle primary."

LA is much more liberal than many on the forum think. The liberalism goes back to Huey Pierce Long, Jr., of course. If Blanco can present herself as a "feminist" heir to Long, she may defeat Ieyoub. People in LA admire her. Mostly, her work has been in the nonpolitical field of promoting tourism.

The people of LA are liberal on economic issues only. LA is one of the most socially conservative states in the Union.

Well, tell that to Senator Landrieu. I think she has a contrary view on that.
