Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean may have a little scandal in his past.
At a fund-raiser this week in Iowa, the former Vermont governor discussed the arrest last month of his son, Paul, 17, for helping to break into a country club and steal beer. "Kids just make inexplicable judgments sometimes," he said.
Asked whether he'd done anything like that when he was young, Dean said: "I take the Fifth. Was I ever arrested? No. But I'm not going to catalog my misdeeds, of which there were a significant number."
Do tell.
Apparently, when it pertains to a Liberal, this item doesn't seem newsworthy enough to make the headlines on a daily basis.
VERMONT IS THIRD IN GROWTH OF STATE SPENDING
According to a story in MacPaper, the Census Bureau says that Vermont's state spending as compared to population growth plus inflation between 1997 and 2002 grew at a remarkable 286 percent. Howard Dean often took pride in how Vermont never spent more than population and per capita income growth. Alas, not true. He will do to America what he did to Vermont. Where did he ever think up that Take Back America slogan?
Vermont spent almost three times the growth in population plus inflation. Three states actually spent less, Hawaii, Nevada, and Louisiana. Go to: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2003-06-23-state-budgets-usat_x.htm
