Perhaps this character should stop thumping his Bible and start reading it:
"Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God."-Matt 4:7, KJV

You can believe whatever you want - but when you start blaming MY GOD for things HE doesn't do - you can expect to hear from me.
And ... GOD does not bring hurricanes, earthquakes or floods.

They are seeking/chasing signs and wonders when signs and wonders should be following them.Matthew 16
2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

Speaking of which, some of the elements of this story sound a bit ... shall I say, embelleshed?

This is proof that God has a sense of humor.

My wife has NBC on this morning to watch the local coverage of our Tucson fires. This same minister was being interviewed and I thought I would see a snake oil salesman also. I was very dubious.
But this minister said he did NOT ask God for a sign, and proceded to answer every question thrown to him straight out of the Gospel, giving praise to Jesus Christ in a very straightforward and humble manner.
By the end of the interview, the NBC studio interviewer had softened considerably. This minister made every second of that interview count in speaking for the Kingdom of God. It absolutely warmed my heart.
Blessings to you all.

Have you ever heard of copyright law and the trouble it has caused this site?Um, yeah, most of the people asking you to quit excerpting were actually HERE for all that.
On the web a link should be as good as a full repost
Well, it isn't. So if it's not from the LA Times/ Washington Post or subsidiaries, please post full text.

(Just my opinion, of course. Your mileage may vary. You have the right to be wrong.)
