Thanks a bunch for the info and link. I have to say that the news is mixed, considering that the biggest winner is McPaper, which is pc & dumb.

If you haven't bookmarked this already, it should be of interest to you. The Media Research Center has started a separate web site just for tracking the New York Times.

www.timeswatch.org

(Sorry, but several attempts to put up a hyperlink failed.)

Times Watch

There, finally! It must be that creeping (or, as my wife would say, "galloping") senility.

I'll NEVER FORGET how...

DAVID LETTERMAN really slammed this non-journalist for his lying to the American People in the Media and then now profiting from it Big Time with a Book Deal.

DAVE just shook his head in disgust.

Atta Boy, DAVE.

"But the Times is such a compulsively dishonest publication, that its editors decided to create a non-existent “situation” for the writer to “explain.” One wonders how future historians and anthropologists will approach the New York Times’ contemporary dishonesty about race.

Thanks, mrustow. Post of the month.

Anybody who was floored by this article by Nicholas Stix will find this one jaw-dropping as well:

THE ALEXIS NEXUS

It is an old thread, but if you have never read it I urge you to do so.

LH

About Times Watch

Welcome to Times Watch, a project of the Media Research Center, dedicated to documenting and exposing the liberal political agenda of the New York Times.

The New York Times is arguably the most influential media outlet in America. Not only is it the most influential newspaper in the media capital of the world, New York City, but it is also read nationwide and frequently sets the agenda for the television news programs from which most Americans get their news.

Complaints about the Times’ liberal bias have grown stronger since the 2001 promotion of Howell Raines from editorial page editor to executive editor. As even Newsweek reported: “A hard-charging editor’s crusading style is coloring the Gray Lady’s reputation.... [the] Times is being criticized for ginning up controversies as much as reporting them out” (Seth Mnookin, December 6, 2002).

By documenting and exposing the Times liberal bias, Times Watch is committed to compelling the paper to provide balanced reporting, or risk forfeiting its standing as the “newspaper of record.”

Under experienced leadership, Times Watch media analysts dissect the New York Times daily and post examples of liberal bias, as well as factual or funny mistakes, to this site. Check back frequently for the latest from Times Watch.

Who We Are

Clay Waters, Director, Times Watch. Clay is an experienced analyst of both print and broadcast news media, has worked in journalism and is based just outside of Manhattan.

The Media Research Center (MRC) is the leader in documenting, exposing and neutralizing liberal media bias. The MRC’s mission is to bring balance and responsibility to the news media. The MRC was founded on October 1, 1987 by a group of young, determined conservatives headed by L. Brent Bozell III who set out to not only prove — through sound scientific research — that this bias exists, but also to neutralize its impact on the American political scene.

The MRC News Analysis Division, headed since 1987 by MRC Vice President for Research and Publications Brent Baker, produces daily, weekly and special reports that document and counter liberal bias from television network news shows and major print publications. Brent’s dedicated staff includes Tim Graham, Director of Media Analysis and Liz Swasey, Director of Communications. Times Watch is a project of the News Analysis Division.

I wish I kept a log of the all the times Letterman has taken the Times out to the woodshed, since the Blair scandal hit the fan. He's done it with long jokes, quick hits, every which way.

Thanks for the link, Lancey. I'd read it before, but skimmed it again, and saved it. I haven't read all that much of Byron York's work, but what I've seen was top drawer. (I recall a postmortem he did on his old mag, The American Spectator, after Bob Tyrrell either sold his interest or was ousted.)

Who is this Clay Waters guy? You sure he isn't really named "Brent"? I thought Brent Bozell had a rule against hiring anybody to important positions who didn't have the same first name.

My pleasure. Another FReeper posted an article a few weeks ago, showing that the Times's circulation has gone down slightly over the past year, while the New York Post's shot up.

Oh, it was more than "down slightly." It was a full five percent drop in only six months. That's a GIGANTIC drop for a major metro newspaper in such a short period of time. And the only other big city paper to come even close to that drop - in fact, they lost even more readers - was the Boston Globe, which is owned by the New York Times and is not exactly left to run its newsroom and editorial pages autonomously, if you catch my drift.

And all this was before the Blair scandal even broke.

The Times, like other big, socialist papers (including some less radical ones, like the New York Daily News), makes it a policy in both their news and editorial departments, to relentlessly suck up to minority groups, while simultaneously going out of their way to insult whites. The problem with this policy, which the newspapers claim is just good business policy in the face of changing demographics, is that minorities don't read newspapers (i.e., they read them at a fraction of the rate at which whites do). And so, newspapers are driving away their reader base, in order to please people who aren't even reading them.

Thanks for the ping. This one's a keeper. The " Old Grey Lady " has been exposed and this is NOT going to go away; no matter what any of those associated with the paper wish. LOL
