I doubt that we are overextended, but I cannot think of any vital US interest at stake in Liberia. Can anyone else? Exactly!
We don't seem to be concerned with even the "pretense" of adhering to the Constitution anymore :-(

I think you missed the news... the Constitution is dead. Now the Supreme Court writes the laws, and the legislature holds trials.

Subsequently I saw that Howard Dean supported the idea of sending troops to Liberia, which sharply reduced my confidence even further that this move promotes a vital interest of the United States.
