The thought police at California Polytechnic State University have found a white student guilty of "disruption" for trying to post a flier in a public area where black students were eating pizza. The flier advertised a talk by a black conservative.
United Press International reported today:
On the evening of Nov. 12, undergraduate Steve Hinkle, a member of the Cal Poly College Republicans, walked into the Multicultural Center on the San Luis Obispo campus to post a flier advertising a speech by Mason Weaver. In his book "It's OK to Leave the Plantation," Weaver argues that dependence on government puts many blacks in circumstances similar to slavery.
The following account of events is extracted from the notes taken by Hinkle's faculty adviser, neuropsychologist Laura Freberg, at a disciplinary hearing Feb. 19. The transcript was obtained by FIRE, Foundation for Individual Rights in Education.
The case at Cal Poly is part of a larger pattern in which schools have held non-white students' "right" not to be aggrieved, for whatever subjective reason, over the right of free expression. For example, in April FIRE sued Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania because of its speech code, which elevated a "primary right" to be free from "emotional abuse" over a "secondary right" to "express a personal belief system."
In June FIRE helped a student sue Texas Tech University in Lubbock who risked punishment for violating a speech code that bans "communications [that] humiliate any person."

Fundamentally, he has the right to be there and post. IF ACTUP can disrupt a church service, Steve can post a flyer. Thanks for the link.
Yes, 'fundamentally' he has these rights, but common sense should also enter into the equation.
Fundamentally, I have the right to wear a shirt with a picture of Hitler on it and have lunch at Canter's. But common sense dictates that I do not do such a thing.

This whole episode is thoroughly disturbing. No more public education!

LOL! Make sure you keep us posted.
I had a (white) friend from South Africa. He applied to go to college here and put down that he was "African-American".
When he went to visit the college campus he said they were not amused ;-)

That's sorta why I'd like to see the "other" side of the story. I'll listen to the school's version if they will present their side...
A group of black students were in the area eating pizza before the start of a Bible study session when Hinkle approached the bulletin board...
is what the NewsMax article says. I wonder what the 7 hours of transcripts say. (7 hours? Wow!)

How should your son be treated? He ought to rise or fall based on his achievements through merit. This is the only way the country can rid itself of the racists being in charge at universities.
A public university favoring ANY student because of race should be boycotted. These leftist sewers are not really institutions of learning. These are propaganda mills. They lost their value when the leftists dominated professorships through corrupt tenure processes wherein only "politically correct" professors can gain tenure. Boycott the universities until they dump tenure and prove they will abide by freedoms guaranteed all Americans by the constitution.
The only way to fix universities in America is to cut off their funding until they are fixed. Starve them of money until they change or die.

Seems to me there is more to this then meets the eye.

I believe the campus Leftists are resorting to these thuggish tactics because they're running scared. Should conservatives make inroads among racial and ethnic minorities or into the university community, both of which comprise a good chunk of the Left's power base, then the Left would be toast.
I wish Steve Hinkle well and hope he hangs in there and wins.

Black racists. Let's call it what them what they are. The administrators of the college: well, did you know that concentration camps in the Third Reich were run by PhDs?

Let's also clean up our sentences. Sorry.

A google search produced only the Newsmax article. It will be interesting to see who picks this up off the wires. Hmmmmmm...still no coverage of this story. Makes me think it may not have been a UPI story after all?

The author's book, judging from its title, is aimed precisely at, and written for the type of students who were in the area eating lunch.

This spring, Hinkle was found guilty of disruption and ordered to write letters of apology to the students. During the hearing, Cornel Morton, vice president for student affairs, told him: "You are a young white male member of CPCR. To students of color, this may be a collision of experience.
The chemistry has racial implications, and you are naïve not to acknowledge those."Ahhh... Ohhh... Uhhh, Hey now, just what kind of letters of apology will I be receiving when I get disrupted by ______________

The universitys finding of facts notes that the Bible study group is not officially recognized, that the bulletin board is in a public student lounge area, and that no notice of any kind indicated that a meeting was underway at the time. I can't understand why the ACLU isn't all over this case. ~snicker!
