[history]
The $38 billion California deficit is unprecedented. If we laid off every state worker, and closed every prison, University of California and California State University campus, and completely eliminated state support for health insurance for the working poor, still there would be a $10 billion shortfall. Without a few Republican votes, a budget cannot be passed, which makes their "no new taxes" pledge the California road map to Newt Gingrich's federal train wreck in 1995.

Some new revenue, both temporary and permanent, including an increase in the sales tax.
What part of NO new taxes did she not understand from Brulte? I thought he made his point very clear.

You can read articles for days and days out here and never see the words Illegals anywhere. Makes ya wonder whose side the media is on, huh? ;-)

Cut spending
on prisons? GMAFB!
The people of California want to lock everyone up - they'd rather spend money on prisons than on anything else. And the prison guards' union has gone the full Jimmy Hoffa style gangster union route - complete with murder, bribery, etc. They even chased a whistle-blower into an FBI office and tried to drag the guy away in front of the surprised FBI agents.

If we laid off every state worker, and closed every prison, University of California and California State University campus...I will not support a proposed budget unless it calls for the utter destruction of UCLA and the sprinkling of salt on the grounds of the campus.

It sounds like one of those 'facts' that everyone uses but has never been independently verified. Like that nonexistent "Lovenstein Institute" report about Bush's low IQ that was finally debunked.

Right you are. (Does the headline need a Barf Alert?)

Lois sounds like the typical Watermelon Rat politician in and from Davis.
Hopefully she and her fellow comrades will continue to whine, moan and push this trash as a way to solve California's problem.
If this keeps up Wall Street will get called in. It will take them about 2-4 weeks to set up a real budget with real cuts. Vital services will continue and the bs waste of our tax $'s will be cut until we get into the black.
Keep whining and moaning Lois and get your fellow Watermelons to do the same.

It is certainly going to take an outside force to effect meaningful reform in California. Maybe those of us who are political refugees from the People's Republic should form a State Government in Exile, including a "California Liberation Army"....
(Sailor now a Nevada resident)
To: NormsRevenge
All this Californian wants to know about this effort is:
Who are the five Republicans? Why are they compromising with dems, whatsoever?
The Republicans in the Assembly and Senate must stand firm against ANY tax increase, none, none.
Any Republican who does otherwise should be run out of his district.

LW from Davis, it figures. Democraticly controlled state legilature + Democratic (thug) Governor = state financial disaster = state bankruptcy. Just do it. Then clean the filth from the state house.
To: sailor4321
Political refugees from the Banana Republic of Kali, need to watch their state legislators and governors to prevent mini Californias in the states they live in now.
Also, you must make sure that your state does not feel sorry for California and want to bail us out.
