All kinds of things turn up at sewage-treatment plants -- sometimes even picnickers.

About 300 people showed up Saturday for free food and tours of the sprawling array of scrubbers, tanks and ponds that clean the sewage of nearly 1 million people at the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority plant on the North Side.

The economy must really be in the dumpster if people are going on picnics at the local sewage plant.

The admission price at Kennywood must be too high, people are taking their kids to Alcosan for free 'burgers and dogs.

I always enjoy your threads full of cheer.

This is the crappiest yet, but it was actually a good read.

The plant I ran back in the 1970's was very pleasant to work in. Think of concrete and berm-walled lakes, acres & acres of them.

We used to say our sewage was purer than Ivory soap, which boasted 99 and 44/100ths percent pure... our raw input was 99.9% water- it was that other .1% that could get you...

That's the biggest gripe I have about living in an area that has to have sewage treatment .... the amount of people that end up in the stuff.

I came across a web site once that explained that the "solid waste" that you flush down the potty only moves a foot or so down the pipe with each flush of water coming by. There must be a series of little piles in our pluming just waiting to be pushed along. This is interesting because we think that all the water that goes with a flush is enough to take the load all the way to the treatment plant.

Statement: "Picnicking by the side of the raw sewage plant."

Response: Sounds like trying to have a picnic at a public park in Los Angeles County, California.
