It would take over 1 Million troops and over $500 Billion Dollars.

And how much are we spending now on airport "security" which demands that I take off my shoes?

I respect MR. Tancredo and his refusal to back away from the truth. The American people (many of them atleast) are in complete denial about borders/language/culture (Thank you Savage) and it could be the nation's downfall. There is certainly enough blame to go around, and not only with elected officials.

The safety of our country is the most important issue today. We are in dire jeopardy from terrorists within and without.

The above statement is from your profile, so I'm confused. Do you leave your kitchen door unlocked so that anyone can enter and steal your property?
As to Dean or Hillary, I know these people to be enemies of this country and should they get into power at least we know what to expect.

"While I agree that immigation is a total mess and endangers our security - what it's going to take is a NEW LEADER for the INS - someone like Rudy - someone who knows how to clean up messes - someone who will rule with an iron thumb - while he's smiling!"

I wonder if this congressman would resign his seat in the legislature if he was offered this spot at INS?

Tancredo seems to have a strong understanding of the serious threat illegal immigration poses, and I am sure he is doing his best to get something done about it, but his attitude is getting in the way. He sounds like a beaten pup.

Tancredo predicted that neither his bill nor any meaningful immigration reform would be passed anytime soon. "If you think that a third-term congressman can do much about that, explain to me how, and I'll be happy to try."

How should he go about it? I'm not trying to flame you, I'm curious about your ideas. While I can't agree than another attack can be blamed on Bush, I do agree that illegal immigration is a huge and dangerous problem. One that Bush seems to care nothing about.

You see the White House attitude on this matter towards Tom?

What was it?

Don't come here no more they told him.

Is Bush in la la land?

I just happened to be lurking and would like to interject my two cents:

The article and Tancredo's words quoted in the article suggest that Tancredo has not exercised due diligence on the matter. While he acknowledges the problem, cast blame (where appropriate), and argues for a solution (somewhat ineffectively), he chooses to fan the flames by talking out of school and resorting to 'he said / she said' tactics.

He might to better by backing up his claims with facts, numbers, or evidence supporting the matter, all of which seem obvious and to go through the trouble of siting each may seem pointless, however, doing so will make is case irrefutable and also serve as a guide (read road map) on how to arrive at a successful conclusion. As it stands, the article portrays Tancredo as someone with a can't-do attitude who lacks the credentials to take ownership of the situation and is incapable of providing a solution. The article paints his rhetoric with frustration, accusation, vicitmization, and defeat.

However, I too am guilty of not exercising due diligence in delivering this critique, as I have only read this one article regarding Tancredo and know very little about the congressman.

He needs facts and figures - and he needs to go to Bush directly and instruct on what the real situation is - and what he thinks should be or could be done to change it.

The other issue as I see it - Tancredo has gone public with his complaints. For whatever reason, this upset the admin. I just think there is another issue there we may not be aware of.

He will never be offered the position at INS. Mainly because I think Bush equates public dissing of the admin as disloyalty. If people go to him privately about an issue, and have a PLAN to solve it - Bush is more likely to listen.

It is my guess that attacks are in the planning stages, as I type, for the 2004 election cycle for the exact purpose of seeing the Bush Administration removed from power.

Whether it will be sucessful or not, I have no guess (removal from power). A lot will depend on the rat candidate.

I'm not sure of the public's reaction though.

Will they rally around the President as they did in 2001 or will they blame him. Depends on the act I suppose.

When you're the king (Bush) I think that approach works best. Kind of immature to stand outside the tent and throw a tantrum. Thats the stuff that only NPR likes.

"Note to Congressman Tom Tancredo: Announce your candidacy for President Monday morning!! Run on this platform of sealing the border from illegal entry. This National Security issue CAN NOT be ignored."

Didn't GO PAT GO Buchanan try this about 11 years ago?

So I can use my state driver's license overseas? I never knew that.

In some countries, you can. In other countries you can, but temporarily. In yet other countries, nyet.

And ... it's partly why Tancredo gets noticed - the liberals love anybody who disses the repubs.

It's impossible to completly seal the US border in the North and South. It would take over 1 Million troops and over $500 Billion Dollars.

If they instituted a shoot-on-sight policy of all invaders, that would reduce the number by 99%. Which is 99% better than it is today.
