WACO, Texas -- Some of Patrick Dennehy's teammates might be suspects in the disappearance of the Baylor basketball player, police said Friday.
Dennehy, a 6-foot-10, 230-pound center, has not been seen or heard from in more than two weeks.
While police have not found a body, department spokesman Steven Anderson said they "have received information from several sources that would lead investigators to believe that foul play was involved."
In a written statement, Anderson said police were looking into whether Dennehy might have been killed in the Waco area. A sport utility vehicle belonging to Dennehy was found this week in Virginia Beach, Va.
"From that lead and others, potential suspects in the disappearance of Dennehy potentially include fellow Baylor basketball players,'' Anderson said. "Information about possible crime scenes are currently being investigated.''
The statement did not elaborate on the possible connection of Baylor players to Dennehy's disappearance.

This is so strange. Bliss used to coach here at the University of Oklahoma and from all accounts is a really nice guy!

Police believe Baylor basketball player may be dead 06/28/2003
By JAIME JORDAN and RANA L. CASH / The Dallas Morning News
Waco police said Friday they believe that a missing Baylor University basketball player may be dead, and some of his teammates are among those being questioned.
Patrick Dennehy, a 6-foot-10 inch, 230-pound junior, has been missing since June 11. His Chevrolet Tahoe was found Thursday in the parking lot of a shopping center in Virginia Beach, Va. It did not have license plates, officials said, but they said Friday that the vehicle belonged to Mr. Dennehy.

Patrick Dennehy ... missing since June 11

Waco police Officer Steve Anderson said the police department sent an investigator to Virginia Beach. He added that authorities don't know of any connection between Mr. Dennehy and Virginia Beach.
He said the department has gotten several calls and other leads since Mr. Dennehy's disappearance.
"It escalated from a missing person's case because of information coming in," Officer Anderson said. "It's not classified as a homicide at this moment, but because of the information we're getting it's going that direction."
He said officials had not ruled anybody out as suspects, including teammates.
"They're being questioned as to the disappearance of Mr. Dennehy," Officer Anderson said, declining to list names. We're talking to them about what they may know or not know."
Virginia Beach police alerted Waco police of the vehicle, which was about to be towed from the shopping center lot, said Jimmy Barnes, media relations officer for the Virginia Beach Police Department. .
Mr. Dennehy's girlfriend, Jessica De La Rosa, said she was advised not to discuss the investigation. She described Mr. Dennehy as "a caring person."
"On behalf of his roommate, friends and family ... we appreciate all of the prayers," she said.

Will be watching to see how this plays out! Well, somebody national is going to have to cover it, cause the Waco Tribune-Pamphlet couldn't cover a gnat with a bucket of paint.

LOL.... I looked at their site and couldn't find anything on it...... then went to google news and found a couple of stories, mostly adaptations of the AP article.

It certainly is. It always really scares me when great big strong (and, in this case, really tall) young men are crime victims. Makes me feel even more vulnerable as a woman. Odd bit in the story, about him getting tossed from a game for fighting with his own team mates.
Baylor is in Texas? And the car is found all the way away in Virginia? Terrible for the family. Reminds me of the very bizarre story about the football fellow who disappeared. Can't think of his name, but some sports loving Freeper will know who I mean. Sailboat, Tahiti (or somesuch place), brother a suspect, brother died? or something, incapacitated somehow. That was a strange tale too. Too bad I can't remember it, but it was almost too strange to remember!

"Makes me feel even more vulnerable as a woman."
Try the Second Amendment to the US Constitution. It can help you. It works for millions in this country-Mr. Lott from U. Chicago wrote a book, "More Guns, Less Crime"...
The mere possession, threat, & occasional display of a weapon stops the criminal, with out a shot fired, in perhaps 80-90% of cases.
Criminals are cowards-you should not live in fear.

"It can help you."
I'm one of the ones it would probably land in jail! As a card-carrying member of the NRA, I must say I am not a gun carrying member of same. I FULLY support our (plainly stated, no penumbra required) Second Amendment rights, but, as the man said "Know thyself", and I am one of those people who would shoot the wrong person, at the wrong time, for the wrong reason. Consequently I will not have any firearm in my home.
OTOH, I did work for years in a store where we kept (illegally, I'm pretty sure) a shotgun in the back. This was right in Manahattan, NYC, too. Luckily it never fell off the shelf and killed anyone!
But, in any event, thanks for your encouragement!
