<She didn't just leave him to die, she hid him so no one else could help him, and she came again and again into the garage to check and see if he was dead yet. She kept him hidden to ensure he died.
you know, i was willing to see her get the 50 years and move on. 25 years before parole is a long time, even longer if it's texas time, i'm sure.
that said, reading your post got me all riled up again. you are absolutely right. what this woman did was beyond reprehensible. what you do makes you who you are. she *is* a horrible person because she consistently made horrible choices - apparently not just this one time, but on many occasions, such as choosing to do drugs and go to work.
life, preferably stuck inside a windshield, would have been too merciful.

She can still get pregnant in prison by a guard.

The other, who drove the car over her husband should have gotten equal treatment, if it was also done so off handledly.
This man never did anything to Mallard, he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time when a totally thoughtless and devoid of morality person hit him and let him bleed out in her windshield. I don't know the history of the other case to be able to compare.
But if it was anything remotely similar, she should have gotten similar treatment..

Was Mary Jo cremated? Most Catholics back then forebade cremation.Yes she was. Yes they did.
IMHO, The most plausable explaination is it was done because the family was pressured. "Your poor daughter will be a pathologist's plaything. Every time someone questions what happened, they'll have her disintered and cut up. She'll never really rest in peace..."
Why? Again IMHO, being able to establish she was pregnant and Teddy was the father, provides a plausable motive.
As she was a Catholic, an abortion was out of the question. Having an illegitimate child had sufficent stigma to end a political career.
This moves it from probable accident to possible murder.
But, I could be wrong in my belief.

She won't be permitted to keep or to raise any baby.

Criminals don't get to chose their juries.
To: Az Joe
She did not deserve a life sentence. No priors and her crime was not the same as, for example, what the abortion doctor killer did. I am not versed on the facts of the case to which you refer, so I cannot address that.
She got off light.

0nly 50? What a horrific miscarriage of justice. At least sterilize this bitch so we wont have to support her kids.

Mr. Kearney asked the jury not to throw this life away. Some lives belong on the trashpile.

She won't be permitted to keep or to raise any baby.Yeah but her genes could still be passed on.
To: onyx
I had soom pretty hateful thoughts about her because of the fear and suffering she allowed to go on in her garage.I can live with the verdict, though,Good job, jurors.

Say what?;)
To: Dog Gone
Her crime was not even eligible for upgrade as a hate crime. I thought I made that clear. Even if she hated this man, and even she wanted to send a message to all whities not to be out on the streets at night, it wouldn't have made any difference. She was prosecuted for all she could possibly be prosecuted for, whether hate crime legislation existed or not.
That doesn't mean I have to like it...

107 posts and no duck jokes? We're slipping! ;^)Yes, and no-one said she was "Mallardjusted"...
To: pepperhead
uh...I agree. Never meant to imply they did.
Just saying that Mallard got what she deserved IMHO.

They will cut her loose in 30. It was out right murder and then tampering with evidence
on top. She should have gotten life.....
She got lucky.
I'm suprised TX didn't give her an appointment with the needle.
Ah, for the old days in Oklahoma when we'd say "that convicted murderer
should have gotten an appointment with 'Old Sparky'".
