Springfield man gets 103-year sentence for sexually abusing children
(Eugene-AP) - A former Boy Scout leader from Lane County was sentenced to 103 years in prison Thursday in Eugene after being convicted of 17 counts of sodomizing boys.
Prosecutors say Steven Jeremy Freeman sexually abused and sodomized ten young boys. He operated a sports card shop in Springfield.
He lived in back, where police say the abuses took place.
Assistant District Attorney Alex Gardner pushed for a long sentence, saying that pedophiles typically do not reform.
The sentences are covered by Measure eleven, which means that they sentence cannot be reduced.

I am pointing out that on the other thread, a bunch of freepers are trying to defend releasing a man who was 18 (now 21) who had oral sex with a 14 year old boy. He was sentenced to 17 years but now appears like he will be set free.
I have challenged their reasoning to no avail (others have too).

Posters on this thread would want to know how old he and his victims were first before making a judgement He was convicted of chil molestation so age would seem to play a role.

He was sentenced to 17 years but now appears like he will be set free. That's misleading. The sentence is being tossed out because if he had had sex with a girl he would have served far less time, if any at all.

I have problems with that too. 18 is an adult. An 18 year old would not be tried as a minor for theft, etc.
Penalties should be normed up, not down, for those who would prey on kids.
There are those on this new thread that say they would have gone for it when they were teens:
Day care operator accused of having sex with 14-year-old boy
Age of consent means that the minor is old enough to consent to sex. There are those in FReeperland who don't care and would go lower.
