A US soldier has been shot in the face in Baghdad in the latest of a rash of attacks targeting Coalition troops, a Pentagon official said.

The condition of the soldier was not immediately known.

"A soldier was shot in the face in Baghdad," the Pentagon official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The shooting came amid a flurry of deadly attacks on US and British troops that have raised concerns about an intensifying resistance to the US-led occupation.

I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I'm getting damned sick and tired of hearing about this sort of thing on a daily basis. We need to either come down on these scumbags like a ton of bricks or get the hell out. We're taking way too many casualties.

Is this the soldier who was shot while buying DVDs in a Baghdad shop?

I agree, it's time to pull off the gloves and get MiddleEastern on these thugs.

Seriously, we need to pursue a two-pronged policy in Iraq. We're 3/4 of the way there.
We need to work as hard as possible to help them bring their country back into working order. We are doing that well.
We need to round up the thugs and punish them severely, and publicly. That's the part we need to work on.

Just my 2 cents, as JohnHuang2 would say!

Okay. But it would be nice to know that there is some sort of plan for dealing with this. Right now, the only solution I can see is a 24 hour curfew and house to house searches for weapons.

could it be they don't want us there anymore? they don't like the idea of us searching their homes and taking their guns? they want to rule themselves, well let them.

The Baath party members and ex-torturers and Saddam supporters should be rounded up and killed. Giving up is neither right nor practical.

God Bless and protect our God-fearing, heart-as-big-as-gold, brave soldiers from the America-haters.

Aye. I too prefer the former. A lesson needs to be taught. A lesson that will be remembered for a long, long time.

After all we did to precision-bomb to avoid civilian deaths. Well, you know what, these men are OUR civilians, and they're killing them.

Give 'em back Saddam and a different kind of war.

What I don't understand is why our troops are allowed to wander around Baghdad in one or two's......what happened to Baghdad is a dangerous place.

It's time to get serious with force security.

Some of these attacks have taken place with the attacker within 10 feet of our guys.....that needs to stop.

How about track them down, round them up, and bus them up north to let the Kurds teach them a lesson or two.

Let all these cockroaches eat their own.

Absolutely agreed. This isn't a holiday tour like being assigned to Munich or London. We're still at war, albeit a different kind of war. The commanders in Iraq know that...which means there is probably a whole lot more to this story than we're being told right now.
