Forest Service says Rainbow Family members threw rocks at officers

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - People attending the Rainbow Family gathering in the Uinta Mountains threw rocks and snowballs at Forest Service officers attempting to tow a car parked in a restricted area, the federal agency said.

Following the melee Wednesday evening, the Forest Service on Thursday closed a 2.5 mile spur off the North Slope Road, meaning the campers will have to hoof it to the campsites scattered around 4,000 acres near the Wyoming border and 70 miles east of Salt Lake City.

Versions of the story vary, but both sides agree a group of young Rainbow members encircled the car, preventing the towing, The Salt Lake Tribune reported. A special mounted police unit was dispatched to disperse the crowd.

Snowballs and rocks were hurled at the mounted police, who then rode into the crowd.

Two Forest Service riders suffered minor injuries, Forest Service incident Commander Malcolm Jowers said. Two Rainbow members were kicked or stepped on and were treated at an Evanston, Wyo., hospital and released. One man was arrested.

Jowers met with Rainbow leaders Thursday afternoon, but said for now the road would remain closed.

Garrick Beck, a Rainbow follower who signed the Forest Service's special use permit, said the events were unfortunate.

''Some young people made a peaceful blockade,'' he said. ''The Forest Service called for horses.... Then in an unbelievable move of stupidity, some people threw rocks at the officers. ... It's regrettable that a few young fools would take it into their heads to commit those aggravated acts.''

More than 1,300 people already have gathered for the annual event, which is set for July 1-7 and expected to attract 8,000 to 20,000 people.

I love peace-loving, rock-throwing, hippy pacifists!

Nothing's funnier than indian-wannabes.

We had them here outside of Boise a couple of years back.

Many of them are simply drifters and aimless with nothing better to do than live thier rainbow pipe dreams. But they are also shot through with rapid enviro-jihadists and anarchists.

They defecate in the open and trash the areas they come to generally.

A group of them here were planning a potentially destructive rally at Bosie Cascade downtown in Boise but we hunted and rooted out their gathering point and informed the Ada County Sheriff's office who interdicted them and escorted them all the way...no destructive anarchy insued.

Sad bunch.

I have a neice who is a dedicated tree hugger. Pathetic to even listen to her and the lame excuses she provides for their actions. On the other hand I have another neice who teaches at the Colorado School of Mines (Her bumper sticker - Strip Mining Prevents Forest Fires) she has her head screwed on straight.

On the other hand, not all of their "clans" appear to be loony. Check out the descriptions of these two:

Nic at night - Nic at night is a small tobacco kitchen where anyone is welcome to pitch in. Our motto is "If you need a cigarette we got a cigarette, if you got a cigarette we need one to give to some one else, we jones so you don't have to."

The Lizard Lounge - we are a tea, coffee, and tobacco camp! Our specialty is called Lizard Brew! Its a combination of Celestial Seasonings Tea, sweeteners , and our secret ingredient which is completely natural and non-psychoactive! We are ALWAYS located right next to Main Circle on the edge of Main Meadow!

Imagine that -- tobacco and coffee are considered okay.

After WW II, my Dad studied at the Olroado School of Mines en route to his Bachelors (From Rice) and MS (from MSU) in Mechanical Engineering.

Sounds like that niece is making something of herself.

Hopefully with time and experience, the other one will turn around too.

I've heard that the Colorado School of Mines is a good school.

Believe it or not, they have a hockey team. I've seen them play. They're in the same conference as the university I graduated from (Utah State University).

Had a baby two years ago, no idea who the father is. I think she is close to hopeless.

They may be able to get/share a smoke and some form of cappucino while there...and I don't begrudge them that.

But generally, they trash the proprty they are on or near and plan anarchist/potentially destructive demonstration in their "colonny" hive. I do begrudge them that. They are the living embodyment of the useful idiots that the left wants to employ to bring down our society IMHO and render it into some meaningless fantasy land.

They don't even know how they are being used or what their ultimate lot in that end game would be.

Like I said, a sad bunch.

Sorry to hear that, for her and especially for her child. But at least she took it to term and did not murder it.

Some hope there...who knows what or whom God in Heaven may bring into her life to turn her around. There is always some hope in that regard when taking our Father in Heaven into account.

From: http://www.welcomehome.org/rainbow.html

When the earth is ravaged and the animals are dying, a new tribe of people shall come unto the earth from many colors, classes, creeds, and who by their actions and deeds shall make the earth green again. They will be known as the warriors of the Rainbow

Is it just me, or does this “Old Native American Prophecy” sound like it was made up about six months ago?

Picture twenty thousand people in a sunlit meadow, standing silent in prayer, holding hands in one huge, unbroken circle. Picture a parade of children approaching, singing songs, their countenances bright with enthusiasm and face paint, baloons and banners waving in the breeze. Picture the breaking of the silence with a cheer from the circle, then the silence returning once again, to grow slowly into a thrum of voices united in a single OM reverberating through the valley and on to the hills beyond. Hold the OM in your mind. Let it spread through and around and in you. Feel it pass from hand to hand and heart to heart.

The magic, the connection you feel is the essence of the Rainbow Family of Living Light.

Peace, love, and light,

Carla

From their website: "We gather in the National Forests yearly to pray for peace on this planet."

Typical hypocritical Libs. Kind of like a violent Peace march
