I've been waiting for a long time for something this good!
To: All
I really like the concept, but the site sucks. I have tried to register four times now and I keep getting booted off. Suggestions?

The president recently announced the URL in a speech which was televised (at least on FNC). It's probably just overloaded.
Maybe if you wait until later today or tomorrow, it will be better.
I can't get in at all right now.

How much is this fed gov program going to cost me? Ignoring calls cost me nothing before and many folks were employed as telemarketers. Is this part of medicare to cover the lack of tolerance syndrome that some folks develope?
When are they going to create a do not buzz list, so I can sign it and sue when the mosquitoes and flies show up?

Site must be overloaded. After 15 minutes and 5 attempts I cannot connect to this site.
To: PeaceCorpsGuy
Rats. I can't get in, either. They should consult John Robinson about how to set up their servers.

Where do I register for the 'Do not Register' list?
;^)
To: PeaceCorpsGuy
But, from what I've been reading, the registry doesn't apply to non-profit and political organizations, which account for the majority of my unwanted, dinner-time interruptions.

I've been waiting for a long time for something this good!Hmmm, is there anything else you want the national government to do for you? How much is this going to cost the taxpayer? Any other industry you want the national government to regulate? Ever heard of just saying 'no thank you' and hanging up the phone?

Yep. Here you can unplug your phone during dinner or simply not answer. You can also use caller ID. And yet, there just HAS to be a law...

I finally got in but the site is very slow. Must be an overwhelming response.

Any other industry you want the national government to regulate? The DNC covers those organizations already subject to regulation by the FTC. Regulation is part of the price they pay for the legal protection of incorporation. A regulation that says that these companies cannot use my equipment and my time to sell me a product is not unreasonable. (And no, a TV commercial is not a proper analogy -- those only come while I'm watching TV, but the phone is an interupt-driven device.)

Wow! This is great.
Of course you can't get in today, because everyone and his brother is trying to do this. But the registration is good for five years. So if I don't get this done until the middle of next week, that will be soon enough.
Majorly cool.
And don't nobody give me none of that "Telemarketers are people too" BS. If I can decline to let the Fuller Brush man in the front door, I should be able to keep telemarketers off my phone.
Cell phone too!

You get called 20x a day at your place of residence? I haven't received 20 calls in a month. However I did sign up for our telephone company's blocklist, so it automatically reroutes the calls. Imagine that!! A capitalist idea for a company to make a few bucks a month blocking these calls does the same thing as the government stepping in. Oh, the horrors!!

Yeah, me too. I consider telemarket calls to be unconstitutional, because it's an invasion of privacy. People should have the right not to be assaulted in their own homes. I'm a nice sweet little old lady until one of those people calls me at dinner time. Then I turn into dracula's mother. They get blasted with something like, "go play in the traffic dude."

The whole "Do Not Call" idea is backwards.
It should have been a "Please Call and Annoy the Hell Out Of Me" register. The entire thing could have been handled by a single person with a telephone, pen and paper, and an old 386PC to play card games on.
