It will be interesting to see if the tributes forthcoming to the memory of the late Strom Thurmond are restrained and tepid, considering what happened to Trent Lott in December 2002.

I think there are only a handful of sitting senators today who could match Thurmond's courage, determination, and perseverance.

Of all the things Strom accomplished, his last day in the Senate impressed me the most. He deservedly chatised Lehey (sp?) in front of the whole Senate and the country. Haven't heard much from Lehey since. Didn't Strom just become a grandfather too?

And who will deliver these statements? In the old days, it used to be his fellow senior senators who would be at the front of the line on public comments when another statesman died. Politics were involved, but they at least tried to appear they were trying to be civil and decent. Expect Hitlery to try to horn her way out front by hogging the spotlight, showing her lack of class once again. She owns the Democrats.
