Yes, I did steal the use of the book for a few hours. You have to balance that, however, with all the promos claiming that she would tell all. That was absolutely false advertising. I did not get the product I was promised. If you bought a window air conditioner that did not produce cold air, wouldn't you take it back?

As I was there, 3 people bought Ann's book (I made 4), while the *itch's faux tome collected dust.

I bought my copy of Treason today at my local Borders. The clerk looked at Ann's photo and said, who is that? I told him a little about her, and he said, I'm going to have to take a look at a copy, everybody's buying that book.

I was really shocked, because this is a very liberal suburb of very liberal Chicago.

Chill. Everyone go ahead and flame me, but this "underhanded" thing DFU did barely makes up for all the lies from the publisher about how many copies were sold, the forced buy 'her' staffers and 'supporters' had to make and on and on and on with the lies - including that whopper that the bit@h even wrote it. I know two wrongs don't make a right, but this is pretty mild when taken in the huge mire of deception her heinous and company perpetrate. It seems if you try to something above-board lately, like VOTE, or write your 'elected' officials, or all other channels, NOTHING happens. This is pretty much a harmless way of showing these liars how people really feel and a grassroots effort to state your opinion. What else works? The only way to hit anyone these days is through the pocketbook. I think this was awesome, personally.

Since you didn't buy the book with the intention of taking it back (at least, that's how I read your earlier thread), then I don't see that this was underhanded or dishonest. And, as you mention, the product was not what it was advertised to be .... a valid reason for returning it.

I am confident that I did no economic damage to WalMart today. That was not my purpose. The purpose was to be able to make a statement ultimately to the publisher about this fraud they have perpetrated.

Sorry, I have to plead guilty to buying it with the likely intention of taking it back. If she really had told all, it might have been interesting. But judging by the index, she didn't. Billy Dale was not in it. Kathleen Willey was not in it. Schippers asked if Mena was in it --- of course not. Cocaine use was not in it. Gary Johnson was not in it. L.D. Brown was not in it. Eileen Wellstone was not in it. Nothing of substance was in this supposed tell all book.

I hope I didn't do economic damage to WalMart. I don't think I did.

Sorry - I wasn't clear. I know you did no damage to
Wal-Mart, because they are paid on what they sell of the books and are reimbursed for any returns they get from the publisher. I know - I worked for a bookstore in college. I am applauding the fact you hit THE PUBLISHERS and HILLARY'S ROYALTIES by doing this. Wal-Mart does not deserve, nor did it get, punishment. BRAVO to you!

I'll second that, but when I go to the store I have to see if displaying a crucifix near the books also causes it to burst in flames. I think I heard earlier it happened with Holy water.

Thanks for the clarification on how publisher returns work. They will probably just sell it to some sucker. It was the only copy I saw there, and it was unfortunately not in the fiction section.

Wish it was in the correct section - it would be buried by Harry Potter. Her heinous has only sold a little over 400,000 copies (this week's sales were down 50%). Harry Potter's numbers are thus far, well over 3 million. Do you think her book could be bundled in an 'Unhappy Meal' at McDonald's? ;)

They have cameras and the hiding part doesn't work for me. Besides, that book is a book you might drive to go to a store to buy if you were an extreem liberal, it is not a book common folks pass and buy on a whim, especially at the high price.
