Sounds like a great film -- I just hope I am not disappointed when I see it. We need many more films about Jesus and the Bible.

Interesting. I have been waiting to see what someone who has actually seen the thing would say.

If this is a sop to Mary, vs Christ, I will have a problem with it.
Looking forward to being able to see it myself however.

Mary is perfectly portrayed here. She is contrasted repeatedly with the really super creepy Satan character, who is also a womansnip
The film is strongly Eucharistic. There is a beautiful juxtaposition of images that cuts from the stripping on Calvary to the unwrapping of the bread to be used at the last Supper.
PING for more on the highly anticipated "The Passion".

I can't wait to see this movie. Focusing on the Passion IMO is just what the Catholic Church needs to do more. In the modern church the Mass has become a celebration, not a sacrifice, step up for your doughnuts and fellowship afterwards.
When I was very young praying the Stations of the Cross was my favorite devotion. Then Vatican II came along, and they had to add that 15th station, the Resurrection. Can't focus on that depressing crucifixion. And many Catholic churches don't even have a crucifix anymore, it's the cross with the resurrected Christ on it. IMO we have to FACE WHAT HE DID FOR US.
And facing it can be a transforming experience. Sounds like this movie may be it for some people. Way to go Mel!!

Wow!! Thank you VERY much for this report. I just love FReepers (most of them anyway). Can't wait to see the film. It won't be rated "R" will it?
For the record, my little boy (I think he was about 6 years old at the time) and I protested outside a movie theater in Seattle before the first showing of "The Last Temptation of Christ". A pathetic few of us were there praying, singing and protesting. There was a picture of us in the paper. (I was a FReeper back then, too, I guess, before FReeping was discovered.)
As the crowd entered the theater, I noted with sadness that some people were actually taking their own children to see that film.
This film here will make up for a lot of damage done by the Last Temptation.
Thanks again for posting this. I REALLY appreciate it.
