Uh..I know that...but where is a Satan Character necessary to be played by an actor (actress?!!) Are they saying that we are going to see the biblically-correct Satan tempting Jesus in the desert? Isn't that a piece of wildly questionable directorial self-indulgence? Seems like it to me.
So...who's playing GOD?!!

Baptism is not a requirement for salvation. Just like Naaman didn't have to dip seven times in the Jordan, huh Pastor Bob? After all, it's just getting wet.

I cannot wait to see this movie!
It doesn't seem to me that Gibson intends (I'm guessing) to show the temptation in the desert, as this movie entails the last hours of Jesus before the crucifixion and that happened well before.
As to your evident umbrage at Gibson's intentions---I can only say that I don't share it.

Looking forward to seeing this movie.

"And best of all is a final look right into the camera of Mary, holding her dead Son. She is looking at all of us with a kind of , "Look what you've done"/This is for you" expression. A cinematic Pieta worthy of Michelangelo." Typical Hollywood take.
It was,after all, preordained.
It sounds as if Hollywood is offering a guilt trip; whereas Jesus was offering salvation.

Any thoughts on why Jesus suffered so as He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane? After all, His death was preordained, why should He have asked the cup be taken from Him?
I think there is no question that Mary was not blase about watching Jesus die.

I don't know what "umbrage" you are referring to...but I read something about a woman playing a "Satan Character," and only sought clarification.
No need to defend yourself against Poor Muttly...

Me aim to please.
Muttly looks forward to seeing this film...and is doing silly thing...asking the grapevine to describe the entire movie for him.
It's just that, though Muttly allowed to type and run around the internet...he doesn't get let out of the backyard much lately. Something to do with "diggimg," "howling," "birdbath," and "NO!"... or something like that. I forget. (part of my charm, don't you think?)
Anyway...it sure is fun to get these updates from screenings of unfinished work. It's fun to second-guess the development of this movie...and explore whether you want him to make various decisions different ways. Subtitles, writer/director-imagined deities...if Adam Sandler could play Caesar...stuff like that. Hope it's finished soon though. It's driving me nuts.
Almost as much as that squirrel over there...on the other side of the fence.

"As a 'Pentecostal' I have issues with the Catholic Church."
Betcha most of the issues you have could be resolved by asking a knowledgable Catholic about them.

Faith comes by hearing, hearing the Word of God. The 'in name only types' may not follow, but those truly devoted to Christ will. The lukewarm can sit the fence all day, but to those of us who love Him, it's nourishment for the heart and soul. Of course you're correct, the problem sweeps over all denominations. If every "Christian" in this nation practiced what they preached, we wouldn't be in the decline we're in today. Perhaps this film will knock some of the fence-sitters back into love with Him.

I will agree that the resurrected Jesus on the Cross is a bit politically correctwhen I was a missionary in Africa, I came home, but some of my friends were martyred shortly afterward. I appreciated the idea that even though they had suffered the cross, the hope of the resurrection was still there. So I have now a large "resurrection" cross in my dining room.
However, my husband, who has seen much suffering, poverty, and war, prefers the traditional cross. So my grandparent's cross hangs over our beds, an old traditional cross from probably a hundred years ago.

I recently converted to the Catholic Faith. I used to be a Baptist.
Protestants do not believe in the Real Presence. They say Communion is only a "symbolic" practice of Christ's crucifixion. From some of the most disturbing accounts I've heard of satanists carrying off Hosts to use in black masses, I realized this: Apparently, devil-worshipers even believe in the Real Presence. We can tell a lot about who we are by who attacks us and Our Lord.
(BTW - I attend the Traditional Latin Mass - Communion-on-the-toungue only.)

What will the rating be for this movie. Will it be too gruesome for children? I guess that's a silly question in this day and age! I, too, am a Catholic. This will be a movie for ALL Christians, but perhaps we will appreciate the parts with Mary a little more!??
