[history]
Anti-recall organizers seized on revelations Wednesday regarding the past arrest record of Republican Rep. Darrell Issa, the chief financial backer of the effort, while Republicans argued the news was unlikely to derail the movement to oust Democratic Gov. Gray Davis.

(Recall Gray Davis and then start on the other Democrats)

Gee, what a pity. I'll bet the Dems in CA were hoping to save that story about Issa for a rainy day. Oh well.

That was a pretty weak play. Maybe they have more dirt?
Hardly a leaked drunk driving arrest report the weekend before a Tuesday Election.

This is not a joke, I was talking to a 29 yr old Cali Dem who derided the payment of recall staffers saying that he volunteers his time out of "love for his governor."
I found that oddly funny.

I like the link to the recall effort.
"In other Whitewater news, Newt Gingrich divorced his wife while she was getting chemotherapy."
That's the usual tactic.

Probably. I'm not too keen on Rep. Issa in any case, but this kind of tactic really is pretty pathetic. Davis is such a pantywaist.

Coming from the party whose leader was guilty of rape, treason, perjury and several other crimes, this is pretty rich.

it's interesting that the democrats started this early on this. i thought they'd wait until the election.
the most shoddy piece of journalism that i have seen in my life came out of the los angeles times in may, 1998. in a column one front page article, they accused issa of murdering his business partner in indiana. if he had done this, why isn't he in jail?
this article was a hit piece designed by the boxer re-election people to keep issa out of the u.s. senate race. at the time this article appeared, issa was in the primary against matt fong. fong later lost to boxer.
i don't see any reason for issa to go up against boxer for the u.s. senate. he's an arab christian and she's jewish. no doubt the senate race would turn into an arab-jewish dialogue.
consequently, you can see issa's interest in the governor's office. but, imo he has a good position where he is, u.s. congressman from vista, ca, no san diego county. it's a conservative area. and near camp pendleton and the u.s. navy fleet in san diego.

Time to fire back at Grey's relationship with Condidit. What did he know and when did he know it? Since they were so chummy that the Condit children were on the Davis payroll......
To: JohnGalt
That's very weak. Arent' dems the ones who want felons to vote?

Even if he did steal a car, it didn't cost the state $35 billion...

He should tell them that for the disclosure of each shady deal Davis made in selling part of California for political power and donations, he will disclose a tidbit about his past. Of course, he will end up having to go back to early childhood in order to have enough material to match Davis' shady deals.

The San Diego-area congressman, who became a multimillionaire manufacturer of electronic car alarms,...Actually this is the most interesting part of the story. On another thread it relates that Issa revealed in an interview that he became a (multimillionaire) manufacturer of electronic car alarms because "my brother is a car thief." That is the ultimate in life handing you lemons and making lemonade! I'd sure like to know more about this whole story. After all the charges were dropped.

So next will be hints that Arnold was a sexual harraser; someone else will be a closet cross-dresser, etc.
Isn't funny how the libs who "support" liars, criminals, gays, et al, are the first to use those very things against them in a political race?
To: Ernest_at_the_Beach
Way too common in todays politics, It's not one's good record that is the platform but the other guys bad record.
The Dems are presenting this recall effort as a "Rebuplican (Issa) movement." Get a clue Dems, check the signatures, it's the people of the state who want Davis out of office. If it's not Issa, it will be someone else. Either way you slice this puppy Davis loses.

A 23 year old case in which the prosecution dropped the charges? As ol' Ari would say "This is a Non-Starter"
To: Ernest_at_the_Beach
It's bad enough that Mr. Issa has a criminal rap sheet in the state he wishes to govern Since the charges were dropped from lack of evidence, why are they relevant, except as an oppurtunity for slanderous cheap shots like the one above, and the countless others comming from the defenders of corruption in our state.

Isn't funny how the libs who "support" liars, criminals, gays, et al, are the first to use those very things against them in a political race?Good point. As far as the far left seems concerned the only real crime is disagreeing with their dogma--anything is allowed for the faithful, but not even a suggestion of wrong doing is tolerable for those that don't.
Although I am not sure if you were implying it, for myself I don't think being gay equates to being a liar or criminal (which view affords me at least a tiny bit of slack with the Left, just enough to be aloud to speak within pre-approved bounds in polite political conversation--provided I keep paying the lip service required to the few points I am a little left of center on, but not enough to be able to run for office without being ruthlessly slandered).
