Texas has and always will take a lot of heat and ridicule from the more "sophisticated" states. As a life-long Texan, the only way I can explain this is to equate these feelings to how Old Europe thinks about America. Texas will always be the elephant in the middle of the room.

As a life-long Texan, the only way I can explain this is to equate these feelings to how Old Europe thinks about America. Texas will always be the elephant in the middle of the room. I know I'm proud to be in a state were cattle still have the right-of-way in downtown Ft. Worth and where, the last I heard, there was still a little-known law on the books that allowed hanging for horse thievery.
It means we don't tolerate anyone screwing around with us. Don't Mess with Texas!
