The mother of a famous Vietnamese model poured boiling cooking oil over her daughter's face, severely disfiguring her, because she felt spurned, police said today.
Pham Thi Hanh, 49, was arrested in the southern metropolis Ho Chi Minh City shortly after tipping a cooking pot of hot vegetable oil over her 22-year-old daughter Vo Thi Thu Tram while she was sleeping.
Tram was in bed alone in her apartment at the time of Sunday's attack.
According to the city's police newspaper, Hanh told police her actions were prompted by anger over her daughter ignoring her once she married a foreigner and became rich from her catwalk exploits.
A doctor at the Cho Ray hospital where Tram was receiving treatment said her face was completely burned from the attack.
"This will almost certainly put an end to her modelling career," she said.
Hanh told police that she had worked as a street scavenger to support her daughter while she was growing up and had felt rejected by the lack of care Tram had shown her in return, according to the Tien Phong newspaper.
In the bid to bring her daughter back into the family fold so they could all live together again, Hanh decided to destroy her beautiful face, the daily added.

Talk about heinous!! This is unbelievable-- the pain, the disfigurement, the premeditation.

Hmmm, killing the goose that laid the golden eggs? I guess mom will have to go back to her dumpster-diving day job.

Sounds like a good argument for a deadbolt.

I can never imagine how these parents could harm their children. I could never imagine wrapping my hands around my little girls neck or holding my boy under water as he looks at me through the rippling water in disbelief and panic.
I couldnt imagine boiling cooking oil and then pouring it all over my child... Its inhuman and the person deserve nothing short of death.

Repeat the multicultural mantra after me, sheeple:
"All cultures are equal. BAAAAAA!"
"We should not judge other cultures, that would make us racist. BAAAAAAA!"
"Judeo-Christian values have nothing to do with how great, or civil our society (once) was. BAAAAA!"

How are they all going to live together if mom is in the slammer?

Since I've learned to expect anything around here, I'm waiting for the "pro-boiling oil on sleeping daughter's head" crowd to show up with the opposing view.
I'm actually half-serious.

I think we could all agree that people who end up in the rich-and-famous model/actress lifestyle end up being morally ruined by the temptations thrown at them. Few have the moral strength to resist.
Matthew 5:30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
Her mother could tell that the "Hollywood" lifestyle was ruining her daughter, so she did the only thing she could think of to get her daughter out that life before she was completely destroyed. Thus, by ruining her daughter's face, she saved her life.
So, how'd I do? ;)
