Basically, Islam is the opposite of personal freedom as best I can tell. In essence, converse of the core Amerian values of freedom and self-determination. Kinda like Democrats. Little tobots.

It sounds like Islam is in many ways very similar to Pharisaic Judaism -- lots of rules and laws and such to ensure that people can, by their works, reach heaven.

Similar in the sense that Muhammad got some ideas from Judaism (and Christianity).

Nothing wrong with having rules, it depends on what the rules are.
