Bill Simon says that recalling an elected official for anything short of a high crime or misdemeanor may not be the best idea.

But the rules in California aren't that stringent. So he's supporting the current recall effort against Gov. Davis.

Oh no, the CA Republicans are going to blow it again. With all due respect to the Simon supporters, he lost and that makes him as stale as a bag of month old bagels.

The only chance the CA Republicans have to take the gov seat back is to rally around one candidate. Otherwise, even if Davis is ousted, we'll end up with Feinstein or the like.

Dear Bill Simon, I voted for you in November. You didn't win so PLEASE, for all of Californias' sake, stay out of this!

You couldn't beat a corrupt, disliked, worthless governor like Davis so just let us handle it, will ya?

How big an IQ does it take to understand that the day a Republican is elected Governor by any means, is the day the Democrats start collecting recall petitions on that Republican Governer. If the first recall fails, the Democrats will just start another one. From now on no Republican will serve a full term as Governor.

Once the Republicans started this recall game, how could anyone believe that the Democrats won't play recall any and everytime a Republican governor might get elected. The Democrats may do this to other elected offices too. They hold all the statewide offices, but they could use it to try for 100% control of the Legislature.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE SIMON CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS !!

The campaign is going to begin any week now! We're really going to take it to Gray Davis!

Any week now! Just as soon as I finish my speech, the campaign will begin.

As soon as I find my shoes... Any week now... The campaign will begin... really.
(end of message)

Hey Bill, you fooled us once! - Sure, support the recall. But, California has enough problems, we don't need any more B.S. in an important election.
This time, NO B.S. on the ballot!

Does this mean that Davis could be recalled by a vote of 51% but reelected by drawing 21% in the election?

Ronald Reagan and other Repubs. did not win at first either IIRC.

Simon does have name recognition. Let's not treat him like Democrats.

(According to the article) - Davis' replacement could win with 20% of the vote.

As I understand it, the first question on the recall ballot, would be to the effect, "Recall Davis, Yes or NO?" The second part of the ballot, is, - 'If the recall of Gov Davis is successful, who do you choose as a replacement?' AND, that G. Davis' name can NOT be on the list of successors. (As I understand it.)

yeah, but you need a reservoir of antipathy for the governor being recalled.

very few people i know like davis, even democrats.

so, you are correct if your hypothetical republican is hated. if he's not hated, the recall won't go anywhere.

I just want to add my 2 cents worth. Bill Simon is a very good to the core guy. His wife is a wonderful lady. Bill reminds me so very much of Clark Kent. Same strong right and wrong values, work ethic, brains--and all the wrong people telling him what to do and how to do it. AND...CA just isn't ready for a Clark Kent. This State is filled with Clintonian "it's all about me" people, that live illusionary lifestyles and show off their worldly goods with credit cards that are WAY over their ability to pay them off.

CA needs a complete overhaul. Those of us that can SEE this in this State...those of us that walked the precincts for Bill Simon last year...those of us that still care, have GOT to help the others, CARE. If I hear another, "I don't have time" or of another person not taking a moment to even bother to realize whats going on in this State because, "I'm just not political," I'm going to hurl. My own friends are like this...and it infuriates me! Unless it affects them, they don't want to listen to EITHER side. Then, when it gets so bad that they can't stand it, they FINALLY start to give a damX.

I want to say thank you to Bill Simon for caring...caring when others didn't, and still caring. I agree that we need a "Bill Simon Lite" because we're not ready for a good, wholesome person running this State, yet, but Bill Simon isn't the problem, people. WE are! And we can fix it...just find the Republican party in your City or County on the internet, and sign up to volunteer to precinct walk. It's two Saturdays in your life, for about 2 hours, and 2 Saturdays in your life for about 4 hours...walking around talking only to the neighbors you WANT to talk to--other Republicans. It's easy...you ring the bell, you say, "I'm not selling anything! I'm your neighbor, and I'm volunteering my time to walk around our neighborhood to let you know who the Republican candidates are in this election." That's it!

You people are upset...THEN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!! don't just rag on people that tried to!

Also, Happy recent Birthday Bill!

B.S. is no R.R.

I'm a Reagan Dem, and all we got from B.S. was a spring and summuer of empty promises. "The campaign will begin any time now. ONCE WE GET STARTED, (if ever), we're really going to take it to Gov. Davis! You just WATCH! AND, You JUST WAIT!! I mean IT! Any week now, any month now! You just keep waiting!"

Up to the end of October, - 'any day now, we really are going to start this campaign'.

B.S. Bill, go back to charity. I have this idea that there are seventh graders who could generate more enthusiasim and competance in a campaign for school mascot, than Bill Simon gave us in his pathetic campaign for governor. Fooled us once, & that's enough!

Name Recognition? - Stale bagels have name recognition - see #2.

Let's not treat him like Democrats. - OKAY!
Dear Bill, - I realize you were a novice. And you had the lawsuit diverting your attention. But still, the 2002 campaign was pathetic. You may have abilities in business and charity, but California needed a candidate with a pulse. Next time, start with the school board election.

Now let me read #16 ... 'Bill was caring...' That counts for something...

You know, the thing is, you are right but there were other things at work here. Gerald Parsky who runs the CA Repub. Party in California withheld FUNDS because he wanted Riordan! It's all been documented my friend. There's definitely some freep threads here about the whole thing.

Though Bill S. lost he lost by 350,000 votes. If more Repubs and conservatives had come to the polls that day it might be a different tune.

From #9 - T.M. ? - Maybe I should know.
T. McClintock - of course! Any details that the voters would like to consider? Need to work on that name recognition.

The ChronWatch Editor continues to be disappointed in the California GOP. If there was ever a body that struggles to get its act straight, this is it. There are a whole bunch of players, but no teamwork. Many in the party heirarchy favored Riordan over Simon as a candidate. As a result, they never truly backed Simon. Simon and Parsky didn't get along, and as a result, Simon got little help from Washington.
