An historical note - I don't know if it is important - in about 1970 I read an article in the Washington Post about Joseph McCarthy. It as supposedly an interview with a pharmacist in Washington D.C. who claimed he had been supplying McCarthy with --- HEROIN --- and claimed McCarthy had a long history of drug use.

At the time I knew that this was simply propaganda from the Washington Post. The idea that a pharmacist would supply an illegal drug that was easily available on the streets of D.C., and untraceable, was obviously a lie.

At the time, I thought, "Joseph McCarthy was right all along." Yes, he was.

I've heard liberals mention McCarthy and heroin. Never found the source. There was a rumor he was homosexual too. That became a national story after an article by Hank Greenspun in the Las Vegas Sun on October 25th, 1952. Greenspun was as mobbed up as were most in Vegas at the time.

What we do know now, is that from 1920 when Lenin gave John Reed over a million bucks in plunder from the Tsars to fence in NYC until the end of the USSR, there was a massive, well financed campaign to subvert our government.

McCarthy got in the way of those doing it. And he died at an suspiciously early age.

Alcoholic and un appealing,he was right. It was worse than he knew at the time. The government was riddled with people with Communist sympathy and some of them spys.Hollywood rails against McCarthism but it was the House UnAmerican Committee that exposed Hollywood and jailed some of their number. McCarthy didn't cause one person to be blacklisted either.

And this is EXACTLY why the Bush Admin Wants & Needs a close circle when conducting the War on Terror and other matters.

Teddy Kennedy ,affectionately known as "The Swimmer"?The only thing I regret about McCarthy is that what he was bringing to the public was so important to the nation and he was giving ammunition to all the naysayers and lefty media types to discount the real Red menace we had to fight. He was right.

McCarthy worked with and was a close personal friend of Bobby Kennedy. Kennedy was counsel for McCarthy's Senate investigations sub-committee. He was supposed to be the primary attorney, but it was decided that since a lot of the targets of the investigations were Jewish it would be better received if the Jewish Roy Cohn was counsel rather than the Catholic Bobby Kennedy. In fact, so persoanl was the McCarthy-Kennedy relationship, that McCarthy was godfather to Bobby Kennedy's first child. Democrats try to suppress this relationship.

How the world would be different if Bobby Kennedy had just stayed on as counsel.

I read the homosexual rumor but not the heroin. The fact that he was right about communism got lost in the attacks about him...which worked very well..didn't it!Monica stalked Clinton, too,uh huh.McCarthy didn't have a blue dress to challenge all the gossip. He did get a censure. He was reckless with his words. It was hardly something to sink a career.

It was HCUA and not HUAC, but HUAC was something that the opponents (communists) could say as a word (especially in the 1960s).

I think it was Mona Charon who said the "mc carthyism" has served as an eternal restraining order on anyone criticizing liberals.

Didn't help much. Those under investigation still tried to play the antisemitism card. Vol. 3 of the just released executive transcripts deals with possible Soviet agents at the Army's Ft. Monmouth radar labs. Many of the scientists there went to City College with Julius Rosenberg (who had recruited, the government knew, at least 10 friends to work for the Soviets). The committee wonders how those under investigation got lawyered up so fast:

Mr. Rainville. Then a couple of attorneys were there. Don't you wonder who is paying the bill?

Mr. Lovenstein. I know who is paying the bill.

Mr. Rainville. Oh, I thought you said you didn't know about that.

Mr. Lovenstein. I know who is.

Mr. Cohn. Who is?

Mr. Lovenstein. The B'nai B'rith Society, I know. This has been indicated.

Mr. Jones. The B'nai B'rith?

Mr. Lovenstein. Yes.

Mr. Rainville. The Anti-Defamation Society, you think?

Mr. Lovenstein. I heard the society mentioned. I don't think they have been called in . . .

Mr. Cohn. I want to ask you this: What is the point of B'nai B'rith having anything to do with this?

Mr. Lovenstein. There is an assumption that there is an anti-Semitic movement.

Mr. Cohn. Well, that is an outrageous assumption. I am a member and an officer of B'nai B'rith.

Mr. Lovenstein. I was under the same naive impression until I became aware of some facts. Excuse me for saying that.

Mr. Cohn. Sure. Who made the suggestion that there is an anti-Semitic movement?

Mr. Lovenstein. The rest of the people who have been suspended or un-cleared. I didn't originate it. I have heard it in the group . . .in the current investigation, to the best of our knowledge--I say ``our''; this is the meeting--there were fifteen people on the carpet, either suspended or uncleared. Of the fifteen, fourteen are Jewish. . . .

Mr. Cohn. This is all news to me. I don't know the religion of these people, and I don't care. It doesn't matter whether out of 530 people there are 530 Jews or Catholics or Protestants . . .

Mr. Schine. Thank you very much, sir.

Incidentally, on the question of anti-Semitism, if somebody there is anti-Semitic, according to your percentage figures, I would say he was fighting a losing battle. That 25 percent Jewish is rather a high percentage.

Mr. Lovenstein. Not at the current rate, because the current rate of suspensions is practically 99 percent Jewish. If you keep going at 99 percent, ultimately you get almost that whole 25 percent.

Mr. Schine. Of course, religion doesn't exclude the possibility of being involved in criminal activity or provide a shield which he can hide behind.

Mr. Lovenstein. Right, sir.

Mr. Jones. Where do you believe the fountainhead of this anti-Semitism stems from out there at Monmouth? . . .

Liberals denounced McCarthy because they were afraid of getting caught, so they fought back like animals...McCarthy was not tilting at windmills. Soviet spies in the government were not a figment of right-wing imaginations. He was tilting at an authentic Communist conspiracy that had been laughed off by the Democratic Party."

Regretably, secular Jews were prominent in many of the various European and Russian revolutionary movements, including the Communists, from 1848 right on through the 20th century. This does not excuse any kind of antisemitism; but neither should we ignore the historical facts for fear of antisemitism.

In fact, many Jews turned to secular progressivism as early as the seventeenth century, after the failure of Sabbatai Zevi and the messianic fervor of that time.

They couldn't have done it without liberal WASPS.

The New England Christians who became, by the end of the 1800s, secular humanists, were very old Testament in outlook at the start. They denied the divinity of Christ and focused on works and the law. Communism was/is a perfect fit for many Jews and Christians. Karl Marx has been referred to as the last Old Testament prophet. Sure seems to fit to me. That marxism is a religion is the only reason I can see that people continue to believe when proof is all around them of what an abject failure it is.

Well, I knew he was an alcoholic. Smoked like a chimney, which would and could account for an early death, but he was vindicated in all of his assertions and more importantly the JOHN BIRCH SOCIETY has been vindicated. They have been vilified more than any other conservative, political organization on the face of the planet.

The measure of your stature is taken by the ferocity of your opponent. Given the way JBS has been targeted by the liberals for utter destruction is in itself a form of vindication. THIS is the reason why they insisted on having the US SENATE investigate them shortly after their formation in the 1950's in anticipation of such attacks in the future. Of course, they were correct.
