You can see how ridiculously liberal our county leadership is by clicking here.

The morons will click their heels, snap to "jawohl!" and vote as a man and a woman to retain Governor Gray Davis this year. Yep, they are that stupid.

Invest some $500,000 in one or more federal suits asserting your 5th, 9th, 10th, and 14th Amendment rights. Private property is not government property. If you have standing firewood, then firewood it is. But the $10-20 for a 30" bow saw works wonders at night if a chain saw at High Noon is beyond your guts.

I forgot for the moment, the 9th Circus does not recognize our Constitution.

I wonder what a contemporary "tea party" felling every tree under about 20 years of age would do, on private property of course. It could make every day an aarbor Day.

A double bit ax sort of looks like a cross.

One solution... drive a copper nail into the tree's trunk. From what I hear, it may take time, but a tree is history from that point on.

Cutting down a tree? Why not Mr. Gestapo Agent, look it is dead!

Empathetic "awwwwwwws" from the next county over. Salinas, home of the highest crime rate in this entire half of the state due to the illegal influx and gang violence, deems it necessary to deputize a Flower Patrol to make sure you're not growing unauthorized plants on your own property. Our church on Pajaro St. was almost ticketed for having the wrong flowers out front, and the voulnteer gardener told she had to take those plants out and replace them from the "permissible" list.

Meanwhile, we are absolutely groaning at the seams from the unbearable stress of thousands of illegals pouring in. Way to go, Mayor. </sneer>

A county building is not a shrine to anything except self-governance. If you don't like a law you are free to challenge it, or petition to remove it, or comply with it, or break it and accept the consequences, or move. You have so many free will choices you can make.

How do the dolts in positions of responsibilty to the public get elected? Does anyone challenge them to defend their beliefs? Have all the formerly intelligent people become so adle-brained from watching TV & cable that they can no longer perceive and analyze?

Dang, people, get off your rear ends and vote. If you want your state back, you will have to participate.

felonious to fell a tree, a TREE, in your own backyard, on your own property that you bought and that you own, without a permit, which costs time and money to obtain.

Benicia, Solano County here.

I had a similar experience when I wanted to remove a dead tree from my back yard. I was soliciting bids for the work (60' tree 28" trunk), when one of them asked if I had obtained a work permit from the city. NO!

Can't do the work w/o a permit. NO WAY! ..... Yes, way.

I went to city hall, filed a permit, drew a sketch of the trees location reraltive to my house and paid $20.00.

Three days later the permit was approved and since the tree was almost dead, I was refunded the $20.00. I spoke to the inspector and he advised that virtually every permit is approved and most are refunded the $20.00. The city was just trying to avoid a potential problem.

I still think the whole thing was stupid.

By the way, I just finished splitting the last of the wood from that tree and got about two cords from it. Kept us nice and warm all winter.

I hear ya, I live in Monterey myself, so I hear about santa cruz sillyness often. Sorry to hear they are giving you a hard time, perhaps something could just "happen" to these trees by "accident" :)

The case I liked was in Santa Barbara in the late 80s...actor Fess Parker was ordered by the fire department to clear hazardous brush from his property, or face legal proceedings. Parker cleared the brush, and then was fined $25,000 by the Coastal Commission for failure to get a permit to clear the wetlands brush.

Here in Boulder, CO we have formed a public group called The Land Use Coalition to combat our county commissioners and their unconstitutional regulations. We have been successful in fighting them. We have also gone around them to the state legislature to rein in their abuses. Half our membership are tax and spend liberals who were s%rewed by their own liberal Dem commissioners.

Your trick is to Look at and enjoy your neighbors' trees while avoiding the cost of fertilizer and water for trees on your own property.

You should have checked into the laws before you moved to Santa Cruz. Sounds to me like you want some "outside agitators" from FreeRepublic to do a nightride to assist you.

Ain't gonna' happen. One thing for sure, just about all of us believe in the right of local folks to pass local laws and to keep the federales (and their state equivalents) OUT OF OUR NEIGHBORHOODS as much as possible.

I suggest you go to Democrats Underground for companionship in this one.

You still have time to study up on political theory and history before you can run for mayor. Get your theory and philosophy well under control and go for it.

Well, hammer some big copper nails into the tree trunks and wait awhile, then (presumably) you can cut down dead trees, no? Maybe a healthy dose of 'Roundup" on the leaves would do the trick, I don't know.

But truthfully? I would get out of that toilet as fast as my legs can run. Flee. Just get out. Don't end up like those white farmers in Zimbabwe who stuck it out for too long, hoping against hope for a miracle, only to end up either murdered or with their farms confiscated from under them.

The time to get out of that foul pisspot is NOW.

Good luck,
LH

I saw this place in Venice Beach but the pic was from a website. The protesters are Tibetans.

Monterey here.

Sometimes I watch the town council meetings on TV, that way I don't get thrown out of an actual meeting for screaming at those idiots.

Ah, what can we do? December is my last month in California. That's all I have to know.
