Sierra Club wins settlement from developers

Land developers have agreed with the Sierra Club to pay a $1,200 air quality mitigation fee for each housing unit built in housing tract 6137.

The fee will be used to offset pollution caused by the new homes.

“We didn't want to file a lawsuit,” said Sierra Club spokesman Gordon Nipp. “We would much rather go through the usual citizen route, but when they don't pay attention to us, we don't have much choice. We filed the lawsuit and that gave us the leverage we needed.”

Other settlements of the suit include use of non-intrusive lighting and the option of solar panels on homes.

Developers will also help fund a study to identify a suitable habitat for the blunt-nosed leopard lizard.

The Sierra Club is hopeful the agreement will be used as a model by other developers and the city of Bakersfield.

In addition, the developer will have to donate 10% of the "tract" to the municipality for a park for the idiot children who don't ever go outside to play because the parents think it's too dangerous.

After the "tract" is completed, the municipality will demand a 12 foot bike/birkenstock path for the children/seniors. And on and on.

What slays me is that they actually publish what they do and are proud of it. The mob kept quiet because they knew they were breaking the law. No one seems to see the connection between what the Sierra Cub (or Jackson for that matter) does and the protection rackets the mob did.

This is like the builder in Soquel CA who had to upgrade the plumbing in 5 neighbors houses to mitigate the affect of the use of water in his new home.

it's virtual proof that environmentalism, like other aspects of the democrats, serves the elite.

the idea that the democrat party is for "working people" is a joke.

working people cannot afford to live in areas that environmentalist have "protected".

These characters sure don't know a thing about business or economics, do they?

The developer may cut the check, but it is the developer's customers who will pay the fee. It's always passed along to the retail level.

Why does Sierra Club get the cash for supposed air quality violations? When did they become an arm of government treasuries? Oh wait, this is California...answered my own question.
