Remains found near campground may be mail-order bride
Mammoth Lakes-AP) -- A skull found at an east-central California campground may be that of an abused mail-order bride who had told of being beaten by her husband. Authorities are asking the public's help in identifying the woman whose skull was found last month on a knoll above Shady Rest Campground.
Mammoth Lakes Visitors Center employees recall being approached about eight months ago by an Asian woman who whispered that her husband was beating her. Mammoth Lakes police say the visitors center gave the woman the phone number of the Wild Iris women's group.
Workers at the visitors center believe her husband also asked about available campsites. Only two were available at the time and the woman's skull was found near one of them.
Anthropologists said the skull is that of an Asian woman between 30- and 40-years-old and only about 4-foot-6 inches in height. The remains may have been buried before the past winter's snowfall.
The Mammoth Lakes police department flier describes the man as being about 5-foot-9 and said he may have told friends his mail-order wife had returned to Asia.
Anyone with information was asked to call the Mammoth Lakes Police Department at (760) 934-2011

I wonder how you look at a skull and determine that it was once attached to a 4' 6" body.

That's really too bad. The postal customer should have just returned to sender. Will he be prosecuted for wanton destruction of postal property?

How does anyone read an article like this and see humor?
Can't imagine her last hours, can't imagine her life...driven by economic forces to seek a spouse in another country, only to find herself married to a cruel monster who has found a way to murder with total impunity. Did he get a special "kick" out of killing her? Is this a "My Last Duchess" where he scares the heck out of the next mail-order bride by trotting her out there to show her what he did?

I'm with you, CC...i see nothing funny in this tragedy. A woman seeks out Park employees in a call for help from an abusive man. They give her a phone# to call (why didn't they call Police??). they find her bones later on and think, 'oh yeah, it must be that one who turned to us for help". geez, i feel so bad for this poor woman, and i do hope the park employees feel some sense of compunction for not doing more to help her. No, no humor in this for me either.

Back at you..that was good catch on your part on your initial observation of the article!

Good question. This is not a laughing matter, IMO.
