'Beyond Iraq' Examines Bible Prophecy

Hillary Clinton's new book "Living History" might be wowing them in major urban centers and adjoining suburbs that lean politically and socially liberal, but what about middle America? According to a recent article by journalist Jon Dougherty of the popular website WorldNetDaily, although Sen. Hillary Clinton's memoir is "reportedly selling well in some areas of the country, it isn't setting records in the heartland".

Well that begs the following question -- Which new books have a more widespread appeal throughout America? Moreover, is there any particular bestseller that not only reflects the values, but the overall pulse of America at the current time?

A quick review of the national bestsellers at Amazon.com (as of 6/14/03), a notable purveyor of books, revealed the following -- Preorders of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" topped the list, followed by Hillary Clinton's "Living History", the Deluxe Edition of the aforesaid "Harry Potter" mega-hit, and "Beyond Iraq" coming in at number 4. Given our nation's pervasive concerns about terrorism and our new focus upon an Israeli/Palestinian peace initiative called the "road map", it's quite understandable why "Beyond Iraq", steeped in Bible prophecy, resonates among the public. As most Christians know, Israel is the centerpiece of end-time prophecy.

According to the Barna Research Group that tracks cultural trends in Christianity, 84% of Americans consider themselves Christians - and 42% read the Bible on a weekly basis. And since many Christians are fascinated with events seemingly indicative of the "last days", the tome "Beyond Iraq" certainly has a ready readership in our nation. "Beyond Iraq" explores the ancient enmity between Jews and Arabs through a Biblical perspective, and the escalating violence that could very well culminate in apocalyptic destruction of the Middle East. An exchange of WMDs between Israel and the neighboring Arab states is now a conceivable outcome.

The Bible-belt and DC-NYC are very different crowds, and their tastes in literature reflect those differences.

And anyone who is watching can clearly see how easy it is to capture the whole world when you have the proper venue. Just look at the stats on Harry Potter world-wide. Brain-washing has never been so easy.
