I just listened to Rush mention this, so I did a little research and found this article. Interesting non-liberal ideas being pushed through are in bold.

I like what Rush said, "I love it when liberals prove that conservatism works!"

Hmmmm.... Well, it remains to be seen whether this is "conservatism." Looks to me to be more like the standard-issue Business Bribe.

IIRC, Boeing's complaints against Washington State have much less to do with taxes, and much more to do with things like health insurance and a "poor business climate." I don't see that the proposals here really address those issues at all.

Pardon me? Olympia legislators (RATS control governor and House with Repubs controlling Senate) passed a $23 billion budget just about 3 weeks ago. With revenues at $21 billion and expenses at $22 billion, these snakey legislators pass a new budget at $23 billion touting that no new taxes were raised. Further, no one mentions the $.05 gas tax increase that makes WA's gas tax at $.28, the highest in the West. Further, this deal was negotiated behind closed doors by both parties to bypass the voters because we turned down a $.09 increase in November that the legislature and the governor wanted so badly. The governor and legislature deliberately lied and advertised that this $.05 increase was a 10-year plan but it's actually for a 35-year plan. And, the governor, and the senate minority leader Lisa Brown knowing that was a $1 billion deficit while whining that illegal pregnant aliens wouldn't have any health subsidies, signed socialistic legislation giving illegal aliens resident tuition at state universities while thumbing their snotty noses at American citizens. And in November 2004 Washington taxpayers get to reward these same lying POS with a pay raise. Now, in today's paper, there's a story touting that Washington receives the first $100 million in federal aid with a cumulative of $400 million dollars of federal aid yet to be distributed. Now our legislators kept $300 million in reserve. With this latest aid, that figure will now increase to $700 million in reserve. Rather than cut spending, our legislators raised taxes to cut the deficit which they now didn't have to do since monies will now become available. And now the RAT governor wants to give Boeing tax breaks? As a taxpayer, that's a slap in the face. My hope is that Boeing looks elsewhere rather than Washington to build their planes.

It's not conservative to give preferred corporations special treatment. Unless Rush considers pork conservative.

Dumb question:

Doesn't a company that receives targeted tax breaks like this run afoul of trade regulations in NAFTA, GATT, etc.?

The Boeing tax breaks would be phased in over time. Locke's package would save Boeing and other Washington aerospace companies relatively little in the first years. But it could save them $120 million a year once Boeing begins full assembly of the 7E7, projected for 2007. The savings would grow from there.

No breaks now. Promise of breaks later.

What do you think will happen 5 years down the line when the plant is built, production is underway, it's too late for Boeing to move elsewhere, and the state deficit is bigger than ever?

Whichever liberal politician is in charge at that point will point to Boeing and spew about loopholes and how many millions Boeing's officers make, and the children, and before you know it the tax shelter is gone!
