Indictments are expected to be announced today for as many as 17 Detroit Police officers on federal allegations that they looted money from drug dealers and prostitutes, police officials said Wednesday.

Former Deputy Police Chief Gary Brown, who headed the department's public corruption unit, said Wednesday that his former staff had been working on the case with FBI agents since last summer.

foolish laws against consensual acts by adults.

Yeah - on sidewalks, in the park, parked cars ... heck - in the streets!

Are you claiming that these consensual acts are illegal only on sidewalks, in the park, in parked cars, and in the streets?

What do you think?

Where do you think the problem really exists?

I think these consensual acts are illegal everywhere.

Where do you think the problem really exists?

In the law; if these acts were legal behind closed (and opaque) doors, we'd see much less of them anywhere else.

I have it on good authority from several "law&order" freepers that this sort of thing is completely legitimate law enforcement.

You and I must be talking to the same people :)

Well - you've partially stumbled into the truth. Where you've made your error is understanding the fundamental workings of the human mind and what those minds then 'interpret' certain allowances to mean as well as the secondary effects such 'allowances' might permit.

Suffice it to say WERE the laws re-written to specifically declare illegal only consensual acts on sidewalks, in the park, in parked cars, and in the streets the basic problem of pimps and hookers (literally) 'walking the streets' would STILL be a problem (which, I think, the current laws REALLY only seek to target).

Unless you want to flesh out your handwaving about "the fundamental workings of the human mind", we simply have dueling predictions---and I'm content to let the reader decide which is more likely. I think it's self-evidently loopy to say that legalizing act X indoors will motivate people who formerly avoided act X altogether to commit act X outdoors.

As I thought - you have no concept/no idea of the 'secondary effects' that always result because of a primary action (or law in this case).

I'll take the laws as they currently are, thank you, in lieu of anything else proposed or hypothesized in the sanitized vacuum of idealism ...

Provide evidence for your claim.

Provide evidence for your claim.

No, I take it back.

We live in a perfect world after all.

We simply need now to pass a law that says: "Everybody will be cheerful and live peacfully together and the world is really a *peachy* place to live after all."

Problem solved.

No more crime ...

... and no more laws having to deal with 'crime'.

How about a law that says that no adults will ever get intoxicated through the use of a non-state-controlled substance? Viola! No more drug use. And no more crime because of drug use.

Thanks, you've opened my eyes.
