Yeah, he was a Jesuit at the Vatican during the Vat.II Council. He left the order and wrote extensively about internal stuff including high end masonry infiltration. His reputation also was tainted by an affair with some reporter's wife around the time of the Council. I read Windswept House and you'll need the name code to figure out the characters(and there really is such a place.) I've heard The Keys of This Blood is better. He wasn't a great writer by any stretch of the imagination but he had the inside view and continued with his contacts over the years.
Here's an old FR link to give some background:

I am not the only Freeper who thinks Dr. Niman is worth reading. If you don't like my posts, don't read them.

One of the guys I work with is high up in the Masons and Shriners. We get invited to various functions, and he's offered to sponsor my husband and my sons. They seem like perfectly ordinary people to me, only far more interested in helping others than most. The last thing I went to was a spaghetti dinner for a motorcycle cop who was killed during the DC sniper incident - he was killed in a traffic accident trying to chase the shooters. They raised about $15,000 for the widow and the children.
I can see where being a Mason would help you to get ahead in life, as they do tend to help each other, and am encouraging my kids to join, but you know kids, they want to play computer games. Getting ahead in life isn't on their horizon yet.

I am sure tremendous good is done on the community level...and regional of course, with hospitals and such. What occurs at the very top, above the 32nd level, might be a different story and some branches have a more interesting history too. Many, many business organizations (not to mention foundations and trusts) do charitable work but have agendas that would pop your eyes.

We live in Northern Virginia, so the fact that George Washington was a Mason is something I reflect on often, as the Masonic Temple in Alexandria dominates the skyline there.
I admit to having a very soft spot in my heart for George Washington. He was a very brave and very decent man.

Like Target Stores funnelling 18 million dollars a year to planned parenthood? (Baby killing, anti-family causes...)

If you enter Washington DC from the south, the Masonic temple in Alexandria will be the most prominent thing you will see. Most of our founding fathers were masons. These two things are not unrelated. If you are ever in the area I urge you to tour the temple, it's free and open to the public, the ties to ancient egypt and catholic mysticism will astound you if you're smart enough.
As I get older and learn more, the more I realize everything eventually comes back to the catholic church. Protestantism only exists because politics invaded the church. All protestants are wayward catholics. (protest)

I just realized I'm participating in a thread hijacking, sorry.
SARS, that's what we're really talking about here. I wash my hands a lot more than I used to.

I take the liberty
of reproducing Pokerbuddy0's note
if you wish to join Niman's list
and contact him personally
if you want to join a group that has a radically different flavor
than most of the FreeRepublic discussion, you can write
hniman@attbi.com
btw. I believe Niman presently still is posting on Free Republic
but I won't be so mean spirited
as to blow his cover by revealing his screen name.

I found the article about Leahy being the keynote speaker and Niman being on a panel about Prodigy.
Showing my ignorance again,here goes

I found it on Gooogle Groups
I knew if I googled long enough I would find it, guys!
To: TaxRelief
Did you find the above Leahy keynote-Niman panel on Prodigy link? The conference doesnt mean a thing to me,but I just didnt want anyone to think I made it up.I knew I would find it if I looked hard enough.

Checked the eff.talk info. You've got Niman pegged. Same place, same time. Leahy - Niman. Both Freespeech obsessed to the point of sacrificing the other Amendments to the Constitution.
Keep going. He is trying to build respectability in "B-grade" media circles.
"You've got mail."

Maybe theyll get "antisense" going soon.
Never forget that Bin Ladens and Bin Laden funders owned most of Hybridon,an early antisense company.
There is a path here, folks.
To: TaxRelief; All
Hold on,I'm not into the Prodigy+Niman thingy.
Both Cobalt Blue and Niman know I'm a dunce on puters. In fact, they both had a good chuckle about it on silicon investor.
I am for complete sunshine.
I am convinced, unless Niman is a hacker of CIA quality, and can get to all my searches, and put up phony screens, that he is the patent inventor of many constantly used concepts.
I am down the path now to find if Niamn is being paid by direct or indirect (grant $$$) tax $$$$ to use his superior brain on SARS.
I do not question his scientific accomplishments at all.
I just want an open discussion of SARS and the American government and all that work for us.
Bush is live, right now on FOX at a Bioteck meeting.
To: All; Princeton
I hope all who are interested in SARS follow Niman and his explaining of the de-coding of SARS.
If only Don Wiley was alive to work with him on viral vaccines for SARS.
The web makes so much avialable, but we all have soo little time!
