Blah blah blah blah blah.

Not that I like Wal-Mart, mind you. I'd sooner stick needles in my eyes than shop there. Down here in Houston, Wal-Marts are dirty, cluttered, loud, and generally zoolike.

I think I was at a Wal Mart like 11 years ago to some kind of crap.

I remember it the same way you describe.

The Walmart on Rt 6 in Peekskill NY is clean, the service is decent, and ammunition is 20% to 40% cheaper than the sporting goods store down the street.

My wife just bought me a Winchester Turkey Vest there (retail $60), and only spent $20 on it. How can you not love something like that?!

I know how entertaining it is to bash the big bad consumer giant, but in my personal world where cash is not limitless, price matters, and I'd rather buy a name brand at a 2% markup than a 10% markup. You gotta love a place that does volume (and has does "end of season" discounts on hunting supplies).

The Super Wal Mart in Osage Beach, Missouri, has to be the filthiest store I've ever visited. I do not shop there.

and isn't it just wickedly telling that the state with the largest number of Wal-Marts in the entire country is, by a wide, wide margin, Texas? Pretty much says it all, really.

I was thinking that y'all might have taken a bigger offense to this glib arrogance. No?

I agree completely with you, I dislike WalMart too, but then this California creep has to go & bash Texas. I don't think about California very often one way or the other, until they bash us. That makes me wonder why they do it. Do they feel threatened in some way?

Ditto here in Southern Kalifornia.....I think they have a secret crew that comes in under cover and darkness to just mess things up, to give the place that "heavily shopped" look.....kinda like Ross Dress For Less and most any Rite Aid drugstore.

Ditto. All Walmart stores that I've been in are the same as you describe. I'll lose my mind and go in there once in awhile, anyway. Like a moth to the flame......

I've always referred to Wal-Mart as the Alien Zoo.

Wal-Mart is probably the best retail store I have ever set foot in. You can get everything from the latest Travis Tritt CD to a .22 rifle to a "relaxed fit" pair of jeans for $14.97. You can get a fishing rod, a snow shovel, a case of Gatorade and the obligatory Valentines card for your wife without having to stop at a bunch of different stores. You can even get the propane tank refilled for your gas grill. What's not to like?

Also, the people they have working there are the most professional people (in retail) I have ever encountered. They are always cheerful and always know where everything is (not that I ask, because I'm a guy and I just find it myself, but I hear women asking and always getting the right answer).

It's amazing what is in one Wal-Mart store. I can get rolls for my coins, Christmas lights for my house, seeds to plant in my garden, ant killer powder, blank CDs, cat litter and even hula-hoops.

I hate shopping with a passion but when I must go, I prefer Wal-Mart because I can then get everything in a single stop. None of that store-to-store strolling that the women do in the malls. That drives me absolutely crazy. All those little candle shops and women's clothing shops and shoe shops. How many shoe shops does a shopping mall need anyways? Then you got the little old ladies in their jogging suits "fast-walking" around the mall for exercise. Well, it might be fast-walking for them but everytime I'm in a mall, it's all I can do to keep from running them over. I hate shopping malls. Wal-Mart is where it's at. No muss. No fuss. Get it and go.

They also don't stock 31"x34" jeans. I found them in the D.C. Walmart. Just not in Houston. They do stock 42"x30" though. I guess that makes them the "short and fat" store. Or it might have something to do with our ILLEGAL population.
