...but that's why good writers need good editors!!!

Warning: All posts here are unedited first drafts!

I'm assuming you're applying the "good" adjective to yours truly. I certainly hope so 'cause I really need that today! (After jumping through hoops and rewriting the book proposal three times because of editor switches -- and "shifts in our objective" stuff, I just got a rejection letter. The writing project was to have been a junior high textbook-style book. Granted, I know that I'm now in a bit of a pity party because of that rejection, but let's just say I now have a better understanding of how they're dumbing down the stuff intended for school-age children.)

There's also the part of me that wonders if I might have been doomed from the start. My initial contact with the publisher was about a series of books that are collections of speeches made by "great" politicians along with some commentary-style introductions to the speeches. While talking with the acquisitions editor on the phone, I asked if they'd assigned anyone to do "the Reagan book yet; I'd love to do that one." Her reply: "Why would we ever want to do a book about him?"

Bottom line: I just did a whole boatload of writing that I now know was for no pay!!!

Okay: Pity party over.
