Hollywood Hates America
NewsMax.com ^ | June 17, 2003 | John LeBoutillier

Hollywood Hates America John LeBoutillier Tuesday, June 17, 2003 Nothing shows the vacuousness of network television more than the two-year-long obsession with so-called "reality TV." These shows prove that the Hollywood 'creative people' can't create anything. So, instead, they spend their days dreaming up ways to show lots of good-looking bodies in various states of undress.

The latest – NBC's "For Love or Money" – masquerades as a contest for two dozen women to find the "man of their dreams." Then they trot out the object – Rob Campos – a lawyer who, it has now been revealed, was heaved out of the Marines for drunkenly groping a female JAG officer in Newport, R.I.

But, just to show the Hollywood thinking on "true romance," they secretly added a 'kicker' into the show's format: The winning woman also gets $1 million! So, the lesson to be learned by the millions who lap up these shows is that trickery with the heart and body for money is to be celebrated.

We could all write it off as "just TV," but we should fear the poison these shows spread throughout society. The young learn behavior from TV – sad as this is to admit.

To see so many attractive women on these shows admitting on camera that they are in it for the money and then turn their charms onto Rob Campos (who does not know about the $1M prize) is to lionize a subtle form of prostitution.

No wonder half of all marriages now end in divorce. If romance has become more about the wallet than the heart, then we are going to continue to be a dysfunctional society.

Hollywood's reality-show craze proves another point: They can't create clever shows or movies the way they used to.

In the old days, Hollywood writers were simply the best. From "Casablanca" to "Roman Holiday" to hundreds of other movies, those well-trained writers knew how to craft a compelling story.

Today, movies and shows in L.A. are written by committee – with 'politically correct' criteria a must. Thus, every story has to have an anti-religious, anti-'square,' sexually deviant component. No wonder so many of the shows and movies are box office and ratings disasters.

And Hollywood liberals – by using their shows as tools to promote their political views – have made themselves a permanent political issue. While Hollywood finances the Left, the conservatives correctly brand Hollywood now as the Capitol of Liberalism.

And all the while the social fabric of this nation deteriorates through behavior modification and learning from the movies and TV shows.

Fashion, language and male-female behavior are all learned through TV and movies. And what our young are learning is a total disaster.

The only hope we have is that counter-programming and independent movies – and major financial setbacks – will push Hollywood back toward the political center.

Please make no mistake about this: Our young ape the entertainment they soak up day and night. If it is rotten, their characters will become rotten.

We need to address this problem head-on.

The empty screed does create the remotest edifice to support the attention grabbing title. But then the author has been an empty suit since rocks cooled.

It's amazing how Hollywood can keep maklng disasters that nobody watches, which nonetheless are capable of destroying the culture. And things were always better in the old days, well, if you don't count the Hayes Commission's censorship. And writers who were infected with communism. Yowser.

Life does not imitate art in my house. Is it because I'm a conscientious parent?

I'm at least as sick of Hollywood liberalism as any other conservative, but will not buy into the "Hollywood corrupts America" stigma.

Parents must make the big push with their kids. Single mothers that are the result of our welfare system don't have the ambition to make that push. Alot of lazy people that maybe thought having kids would be "fun" don't have the ambition to make that push either. Therein the problem lies.

As much as Hollywood would like to shape history, I will not give them credit for that. Art imitates life, though art does tend to exagerate.

God is getting ready to do some serious counter-programming. Start looking for it sometime between this fall and the fall of 2004. Hollywood will never be the same when this production begins. Hint: It will be hard to make films for fallen creatures, when all the creatures are no longer fallen.

Not entirely. MTV has promoted irresponsible behavior for a long time now hoping to convert otherwise good children into Democrats. Those efforts seem to be working in homes where parents aren't actively guiding their kids in some kind of moral framework. Those missing music videos were far more innocuous than the garbage they're airing today in their place. That they continue to label themselves "Music Television" while playing no music points out their underhanded agenda.
You heard it here first.

I completely disagree with your superflous commentary. In the future, you should try to use fewer large words and aim for more concise content and evidence. In my opinion, the author's discussion regarding the lack of social morality in "modern" screenplay and the excellence of past screenplay is accurate and telling. And, I would add that the reliance on overt sexual depictions and "loud" special effects also coincided with the decline of creative screenplay from Hollywood. Check it out.

Gotta go with Torie on this one. Of all the examples he could have listed to support his headline, man were these weak.

He isn't even smart enough about Hollywood to know that "Casablanca" was a pro-Communist story with Victor Lazlo as the "principled", freedom-fighting party member who had been imprisoned by the Nazis. Even though the pro-commie stuff was toned-down from the first script, the main reason Hollywood loves it so much is for that reason.

Also, try to think of the French as brave and fearless the next time you watch it.

LeBoutillier doesn't have a lot going for him. But it is fairly clear that the Old Media are probing for the lowest common denominator with these "reality" television shows. Joe Millionaire made it plain that they regarded no conceivable descent as "crush depth."

My television has a channel selector. I use it without mercy. I trust other intelligent conservatives will do the same, rather than appeal to Washington to foreclose our choices by law.
