I'm a WW2 buff and I don't see any feasible way that Hitler could have defeated the United States. Even if he had conquered Great Britain and the Soviet Union. The U.S. war machine by then was in high gear and fighting the war in two separate oceans. Hitler was doomed.

If Hitler had been successful in conquering the Soviet Union, it would have been easier for him to take on America, without pressure from the Eastern Front.

Certainly, conquering America, the world's largest industrial war machine, would have been one hell of a challenge, even if Hitler had managed to somehow move hundreds of thousands of troops, tanks and aircraft to Mexico and Canada.

But I was wondering if he would have received support from fifth columnists in America, who may have viewed it as advantageous to work with him.

It seems that Hitler's attempt to conquer Great Britain was half hearted. If he had brought to bear the determination against GB that he showed in the death struggle with Russia he might have won the war.
1. Set up a blockade around Britain that would weaken it. Take great care not to sink American shipping. A crisis in the British government might bring down Churchill. Offer Britain acceptable terms to become a vassal state with minimal German presence. If Britain accepts:
2. After taking a breather to gather strength attack Russia with a full strength undivided Army. Start the attack no later than early May. Take Moscow and capture Stalin. Russia surrenders.
3. Offer the US complete uncontested domination of the New World in return for non-interference in German domination of Eur-Asia. If America accepts: War won.

If Hitler did conquer the Soviet Union and Britain, I doubt the US public would have had the stomach for an all out war against the Reich. Considering the amount of resources Hitler would have had at that time, ME oil and African minerals. We would probably end up in a "Fatherland" situation, where the US defeats Japan but eventually makes peace with the Nazis.

It depends on what you mean by "by then". We were not yet fully in high gear when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. If they had not done so, and the Germans had invaded Britain before turning on Stalin, things would have been considerably different. The "America First" crowd likely would have continued to oppose American entry into the war, and there would have not been nearly the pressure to increase our own production and force levels. Certainly there would have been no Manhatten project, at least not one with the crash priority it had. It would have taken quite some time for the Axes to absorb the Soviet Union, but if they had, they would have soon had a large force available to deal with the US and the rest of the world. Meanwhile, the Japanese did have large deep water Navy, and lots of shipping. They could have shared designs with the Germans, as the Germans did share certain technologies with them. Combining German, Italian, Japanese and Soviet resources could have resulted in a formidible Navy and Air Force. Certainly the Germans and Italians were perfectly capable of building a B-29 like aircraft to bomb the US.

I agree, the logistics would have been an absolute nightmare. the Germans would have gotten chewed to bits.

Perhaps the only way Hitler could have won would have been by pulling a technological genii out of his cap.

Something involving Me 262s and aircraft carriers in 1942, maybe.

With better spies Germany could have developed the atomic bomb and avoided losing. I agree he could not have won though.

I basically agree with you but consider a Mexico-Germany alliance combined with the placement of hundreds of V2 rockets circa, say, 1946. Hitler might not have beat us but he could have forced us to cease hostilities and possibly forced the election of a pacifist. With all our major cities threatened who knows?

This is incidentally the same concern we all have about terrorists and WMDs. If they can make good on threats to destroy one major city at a time (like Lex Luthor in Superman) would we fight or just give up? Would we die in defense of our nation or accept life as slaves?

What if instead of a direct invasion, Hitler simply sent agents to infiltrated our college campus', hijacked our media with socialist bias, sent teachers into our primary education system, and took over one of our major political parties??

What if he created spin slogans so simple that even the simplest minds could comprehend the propagandist slogans like "All the Votes should count" or "No Oil for Blood"?

What if, instead of a direct invasion, Hitler simply instilled sympathy for terrorism against the Jews of the world?

What if he manipulated the UN to place his satellite countries on Human Rights organizations?

What if he turned the entire world against America for simply trying to defend itself?

Come to think of it--are we sure the Nazi's lost W.W.II?

Hitler's war machine was fuel (gasoline) starved. We were not. That would have stopped him if nothing else from trying to invade the US. I can't imagine what on earth he was thinking when he invaded Russia and stayed to winter there. Nappy did the same stupid thing and paid the same horrific price.
