[history]
Submachine guns, long a common sight in many European airports, made their debut yesterday at Logan Airport, which has spent more than 11/2 years bolstering its security and image after becoming the takeoff point for two of the planes hijacked by terrorists in the Sept. 11 attacks.

But Peggy Lucas-Taylor, 72, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., wasn't so sure.
''They should have something, but not necessarily a machine gun,'' she said. ''I think a machine gun would do more harm than good. It's such a big weapon. Maybe some of that pepper spray? Or a stun gun? I don't know.''
Thats right Peggy you don't know, so shut the hell up....

Another bunch of wannabe Rambo's trying to make themselves look and feel important behind the disguise of 'security'.
Whew!! I feel soooooo safe now.

More harm than good to what Mark Steyn called Logan's reputation as "New England's Terrorist Playground". I still wonder if Andy is going to let F-Troop have any bullets.

"Submachine guns for me, but not for thee," said the mighty State.
Seems to be a pretty good profit margin on MP5's of any flavor... I suppose when governments are the only customers, there isn't going to be much in the way of competitive pricing.

It's imported.
It's a banned assault rifle.
It has a silencer.
It fires semi-auto.
Can I have one?

Many of the problems with "security" at airports have been discussed within the 2nd Amendment Community and generally revolve around two issues: training and ammunition. For example, for some reason, the most politically correct governmental organizations have long favored the Full Metal Jacket Round Nose projectile as somehow to be a "safer" type of ammunition when in fact, it will "overpenetrate" and cause injury to many more "no shoot" targets than the hollowpoint projectile.
So, for example, the patrols conducted by National Guard after 9-11 were more likely to armed with ball ammunition designed for combat ( required by the Geneva Convention) than "one stop, one hit" ammunition necessary for the immediate impairment of a terrorist.
Overall, this article is the usual mixture of igorance and propaganda we have all come to expect and love from the Nattering Knuckleheads of Nitwittery who dominate the Muddlestream Media.
Best regards,

It fires semi-auto.I believe you meant to say auto. Give 'em surplus M3s that's what I say (a little spray and pray never did anyone any harm).

I've heard this weapon refered to as "the worlds most expensive .380". Since the suppresser reduces the bullet velocity to subsonic, it really is not a very powerfull weapon.(not that I'd like to catch a few rounds from one}

Well, a two-round burst is not really auto. Anybody know a good term for this?

This is the stupidest idea our nanny government has come up with in awhile. A single shot from a 9mm won't do enough damage in a crowded airport so why not something that shoots in bursts? This is suppose to make airports safer?
These guns are meant to intimidate and control. The next time an old woman complains about security procedures picture a cop pointing one of these things at her.
Terrorists don't worry about what gun a cop is wearing they just slip around security. Meanwhile American citizens have to put up with European style jackboots and surly screeners without saying a word in protest.
STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!

Yeah, I feel better with MA State Police roaming Logan Airport with machine guns, looking for some terrorist action. (sarcasm)

It also fires full auto.
And, no you can't.
You're not a Lord.
You're a peasant.
Peasants don't need guns like that.
Lords do.
Because they know what's best for us.
It's for our own good.

the silencer feature was a key component sought by the State Police to help mute the alarm caused if the guns have to be fired inside the airport's buildings. ''If it was shot in a terminal, the report would be very soft ... and that would create less panic,'' Gawd forbid that the sheep might panic.
I guess they'll install elastic-absorbent floor tiles next, so any nearby sheep wont hear the body go thump or see the blood and bile.
''It's also something that we want to put out there so that when terrorists come to this airport to conduct surveillance on things that they might want to do here, that it acts as a deterrent,'' he said.
Landing in Logan during a thunderstorm is the bigger deterrent. IMO
The MD5SD is an ominous-looking weapon that can fire a single 9mm round, or, with the flip of a switch, fire two rounds with a single pull of the trigger.
It is highly accurate over long distances and will not fire a volley of uninterrupted bullets
So, it's a scary-looking semi-auto with flash suppressor and silencer. No mention of magazine size or a bayonet mount.
Not a machine-gun.
