I appreciated some insights and history, but that's ONE LONG "We promise we're not up to anything, we swear" article.

Sorry, that Spencerian Darwinism Liu refers to, is something called realism, a view of statecraft for oh, centuries. Because China behaved in one way prior to the modern era, does not mean that it will not conduct policy as a major modern power today.

He writes well and often, but one should know where he's coming from. Henry C. K. Liu is generally very critical of the US and appears to be a Communist China apologist.

He also wrote an intriguing article on bankruptcy (http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Global_Economy/DI28Dj01.htm) which makes one wonder what his involvement in PRC investment in bankrupt US telecoms companies like Global Crossing might be.
