[history]
The recall of Gov. Gray Davis has yet to qualify for the ballot, but politicians across the state are pondering what comes next.
"This is so great because there are so many permutations," said Bill Simon, the wealthy GOP businessman Davis defeated in November. Simon is seriously considering another bid for governor if the recall reaches voters.

It's like a Stephen King novel.

Good to see Torres sticking with Davis. Wouldn't want to distract folks from the problem at hand: getting rid of Gray.
Once we get rid of Davis, maybe we can deport Torres to the country he's loyal to: Mexico.

This is delicious. Regardless of which party wins, the citizens will win if Davis is booted. Some things really do transcend politics, and poor California is being run into the ground.
As an out-of-state bystander, I'm really watching this to see how it plays out. Purely for entertainment value.
Wasn't it not too long ago that Davis was touted as a serious future Presidential candidate?

"Are you the only one who is not a candidate in the recall election?" state Democratic Party Chairman Art Torres asked a caller Thursday. "This is the craziest season I've ever experienced. This is just crazy."Yeah California, what makes you think you can do this to D- Davis, California, you people are poorly bred. Californian petition signers have missed a perfectly good opportunity to keep quiet (Name that politician!)
In that case, said state Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks, while a smaller field helps a wealthy candidate, a larger one favors someone with a core base of support -- someone like McClintock. "I'm fairly confident that I have that base of support."
Be confident that you have my vote Tom.
Torres has asked all of them to pledge not to run. The best way to beat the recall is to beat the recall, not offer an alternative just in case, he said. "The Democrats should put no one on the ballot because our candidate is the governor of California," Torres said.
Mu ha ha haa! As Rush would say, "another case of the Democrates opening the door right into their face"

(Recall Gray Davis and then start on the other Democrats)

ChiFi Frankenstein's hubby is probably secretly funding the recall petitions.
If GW sweeps in 2004 and brings the total of Republican Senators to 60, her value as a top Rat senator is devalued.
Her hubby has made a large part of his fortune with her as a senator backing Red China and other pet projects.
When that power is gone in 2005, they would be better off with her as governor granting his various companies all types of sweetheart deals. Cal Pers, alone, will bring them billions in the Bush economic recovery.

I think one of them will be the candidate the rest will get behind. I hope its McClintock. He tells its straight and if it were a straight Davis-McClintock match, Davis has no chance. Anyway, the recall election is gonna be fun for sure.
