PeopleSoft to open office in India

PLEASANTON -- PeopleSoft Inc., whose software is used to process payroll and track inventory, will shift some consulting work to India to lower the costs of customizing programs for clients. Pleasanton-based PeopleSoft is working with Hexaware Technologies Ltd., an Indian consulting company, to open an office in Bangalore in June. Hexaware consultants will configure PeopleSoft programs for customers' specific needs, said Bill Henry, a PeopleSoft vice president of strategy and marketing.

You'd better wake up! Seriously, are you so clueless you're unaware of what's going on in the world today? PeopleSoft is now history ... the only thing left for the company is maintaining the old installations for legacy customers. Larry Ellison is in the middle of a hostile takeover of the company and plans to disband the company whereupon existing customers will use Oracle's software. The future is not Peoplesoft, it is Oracle - so much so, in fact, they rushed out their earnings, previously due out next week, to release them today (revenues + earnings up 35% year on year).

Peoplesoft has absolutely no new customers since Oracle said they plan to buy Peoplesoft and discontinue their products. Who would install Peoplesoft knowing it may not soon exist?

The Oracle products I've worked with are crappy. Once again it shows that to succeed in software you must sell crap but market it really well, with kickbacks and whatever else it takes.

Then doesn't that reinforce Zorrito's point? ORACLE has re-lo'd 4,000 jobs to India. I am gonna guess that's 10% of their work force.

Without arguing the pros, cons, and philosphical angles---where is this going? Why wouldn't every corporation move every staff and tech job to India? And that is definitely where it is headed without doubt. Is there anything on the horizon to change this trend?

Software salesman's primary skill -- golf. How to use it:

(1) Negotiate a deal. Mutual understanding that customer will buy.
(2) Play golf with person who signs contract.
(3) Bet on each hole.
(4) Lose $10K overall.

Result. Signed contract. Large payment to salesguy (who typically get 30% or so of value of signed contract. Customer (company) gets nicely discounted price off the heavily marked up base price. Contract signer legally pockets $10 grand (as long as it is declared on taxes). Everyone is happy.

Oracle's bid is already underwater. The stock is above what Oracle offered, and PeopleSoft officially turned down Oracle today. Oracle does not even want PeopleSoft. Their mission was to cause FUD in the market. They succeeded, because almost all of PeopleSoft's pending orders are on hold pending the J.D. Edwards acquisition.

The future is PeopleSoft/J.D. Edwards. Oracle has no chance of taking over PeopleSoft, even if they actually wanted to do so.
